What Guests Are Saying

Island Lake Campground offers a beautiful, well-maintained setting with clean restrooms and friendly camp hosts who provide excellent service. The campground features spacious and private sites, ideal for fishing and hiking, with stunning lake views. However, access is currently limited due to construction, with a challenging one-lane road that may pose difficulties for larger vehicles.

Nice quiet camp with campsites spread apart nicely. Some sites are not level and we had to change sites due to our camper didn't fit the site that we reserved, even though the reservation site said it was big enough, it was not and very unlevel and suitable for a camp trailer. The host were very accommodating and it was a pleasure to deal with them. The bathrooms were very clean and hosts made it a point to check in to see if we needed anything. The lakes were beautiful and very good fishing. We wish we had our kayaks the lakes were prefect for a day of kayaking.

Nice campground on the Grand Mesa. Next to Island Lake so good for fishing and kayaking. Some sites with electric hookups. I have been several times and the area is beautiful.
However, during this visit I have never been to a campground where so many had large dogs off leash. Rule is they should be leashed at all times. A small dog on leash was attacked by a large dog off leash that charged it as they were walking by a campsite. The large dog had it by the throat and was whipping it around. It survived with injuries. I felt it was unsafe to walk my dog around the campground. The hosts talked with the offenders.
A word of warning: there are two accesses points from the main road. One is closed for the next year or so as the campground next door is getting improvements. The only way in/out is a one lane shelf road that is steep and rocky. Very dangerous for anyone towing a camper. If you meet anyone coming from the other direction it would be a big problem if you are towing because you’d have to either back up or back down a narrow rocky shelf road. The camp hosts were nice enough to help me when leaving with my camper. They rode up to the top of the road where it meets the main road and stopped anyone from coming down while I came up. I think information should be posted on the website about his situation. Personally I would close the campground to any towed campers/motorhomes. Tenters and small vans maybe..
The day use area is closed but people come down and park at the sides of the road in front of the campground entrance making it difficult or impossible for a truck with a camper to turn out of the campground. I was told that someone tore up the side of their camper on rocks trying to make the turn to exit.
Love this place but I’m not going back until the other access road (which is flat all the way out) is open again.
