What Guests Are Saying
Island Lake Campground offers a beautiful, well-maintained setting with clean restrooms and friendly camp hosts who provide excellent service. The campground features spacious and private sites, ideal for fishing and hiking, with stunning lake views. However, access is currently limited due to construction, with a challenging one-lane road that may pose difficulties for larger vehicles.

You do not control the weather but it was very buggy and we had hail. And as a result of the hail there was a lot of wash out of the campsite itself. Including the post falling over or if it's own accord. It seems like the drainage needs to be looked at to ensure that it is a little better. The trail around the lake is nice. The upper part of the campsite was nice.

The excellent weather and cooler air were wonderful. We appreciated the quietness of Island Lake campground. As usual excellent fishing in the Cobbett Lake which is by the Grand Mesa Visitors Center. We drove over to the Land's End Observatory overlook this time. A beautiful site. Next year, we plan to drive the Land's End road all the way to US Highway 50. Since there are +300 lakes and ponds on the Grand Mesa, bring bug spray to ward off the mosquitoes. As heads up to you internet junkies, there is free Wi FI at the Grand Mesa Visitors Center. Also, the Mesa Lakes Lodge is nearby if need last-minute grocery items and fishing supplies.

Great campground. Site 9 has an enormous tent pad area. We set up a 4p tent and a 2p tent as well as 2 rain tarps on it. Black-tailed deer roamed the hill side above it as well as came down right beside our tents. Pit toilets were kept clean and stocked.

There are two young bears that roamed through the campground each of the three days we camped. Many of the tent campers had food and trash in their sites which attracted the bears. Unfortunately as these bears get older, and bigger, chances are they will have to be destroyed because of the lazy behavior of some campers. The USFS and Host need to do more to get people to be more bear aware. The campground is a lovely location, and we enjoy staying there.

Beautiful spot with views of the lake and mountains. Easily accessible lake and hiking, excellent camp host. Only downside was the mosquitos!

We arrived later than expected, but we still had time to enjoy the sunset, start a campfire, and take in all the stars! We were in site 23 which looked to the open vastness of the east (although our site still had lots of trees) and we witnessed a spectacular dawn. The campground was pristine as were the bathrooms. We would like to go back and stay a few days.
