Rocky Mountain National Park Moraine Park Campground

Beautiful park, easy to navigate, rangers were kind and helpful. I’ll remember my experience for a long time.

Site was perfect for what we were looking for. Parking area was shared with next site but was plenty of big enough for both sites. Bear locker in site was very large easily holding our supplies for a week. Good tree coverage in the mornings, in the afternoons there's enough opening to catch some sun. Great base camp to go all over in the park and relax.

Campsite was great - definitely do your research and try grabbing one with a bit of a privacy. All the restrooms were in great shape, the views were great, and it’s hard to beat the location in the park. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

Water was not available in the loop. It seemed like they were preparing for some renovations.

Nice very large campground. RV water fill was not available but Glacier campground was down the road and available. There were some campers next to us that were not honoring the generator run hours. But overall at night it was quiet. Very close to Bear Lake Corridor, access to Trail Ridge road and Alluvial Fan. Lots of great hiking trails in the park.

This campground rest all of its morales on the location and views. Although nice, we had several problems with our sites and the people around us had the same complaints. Our site was one of only 2 sites in the campground on a 20% grade in order to access it, and if the grade isn’t the problem the new 8 inch high curbs that put down to prevent gravel and erosion add another level to the problem to clear. Then someone who must not really understand erosion, put in drainage grates on both sides of the road opposite of each other that were 3 feet deep. All of this the perfect storm for disaster trying to get into spot B148. The spots on the opposite side are facing the wrong way, so all the campers on that side had to go in backwards to get into thier spots. There are about 5 spots that are the issue, and there is no way to know that you reserved such a spot because they are not going to put that information on the reservation site. Our camper is heavy, and I have take it all over this hilly mountainous country with no problems, but this site was the end of my transmission. The next problem was the nasty, filthy bathrooms. There was feces and webs and bugs everywhere. Feces on the walls! They have never been cleaned. I saw staff wondering about, but the vaulted toilets were unusable. I have never seen a vaulted toilet that bad. It was very unhealthy situation. Lastly, my brother opened the fresh water tank for the last gallon to drain, and the ranger said that would create unwanted erosion and to close it. No problem, sorry, but what do you do about the rain, and the water was fresh, and we got it from your park, and with as dry as it is, I’m not sure that is where your Ranger gripe should be. There were people not parked in their spots, there were tents in long campsites with electricity so they could play their radios and charge their phones. It is just not a well run location, and why would they have to when they can bank on the view.

Moraine Park was an excellent base for our exploration of RMNP. Having the camping reservation made access the park a breeze. Look to nearby Cub Lake trail for wildlife, it is an underappreciated and quieter trail to hike since so many with the Bear Lake Rd pass will bypass it. The site was spacious, though sandy. Views were good, of Long Peak to the south and the hills rising to the noth attracted mule deer almost daily. Bathrooms were nearby but it was not loud. Having the dishwasking sink in the bathroom was a great bonus!

Rocky Mountain National Park is a treasure, a must-see destination for Americans and folks around the world. This is a very nice campground. Staff and volunteers were helpful.
Better funding and more staff might address a couple of issues: busses to and from the Park and Ride were beyond packed, restrooms had some maintenance issues.

Clean bathrooms, plenty of space. If you want to see dark sky, pick a site out of view of bathroom lights. But if you need convenience of bathroom close by, it's a good spot
