About Rocky Mountain National Park Moraine Park Campground

Moraine Park Campground is open for the Winter Season·         Sites are available on a first come, first-served basis.·         Campers can only pay in person.·         Campers can pay using the Recreation.gov Mobile App Scan and Pay feature.·         Sites are available in A-Loop, B-Loop, C-Loop, and E-Loop only.·         All campsites in Loop A 63-137, and Loop D are closed for the winter season.·         To pay, follow instruction on QR code located at the campground entrance kiosk.·         Fill out and hang a campsite marker on the campsite post for proof of payment.Winter Camping Stay Limit: At Rocky, there is a limit of 14-nights per year including summer.Moraine Park Campground is located on the east side of RMNP at an elevation of 8,160 feet above sea level. There are 244 campsites available. To get to Moraine Park Campground, turn down Moraine Park Road for 0.5 miles.  Any sites that are open are listed as "A" for available; this means those campsites are available to be reserved.Any campsite listed as “NR” has Not Yet Released; this means that those campsites are not yet available to be reserved.What Size of RV or Trailer Can Moraine Park Campground Accommodate?Moraine Park Campground can accommodate up to a 40-foot-long RV or a Trailer and Tow Vehicle. The combined length cannot exceed 40-feet. Before making a reservation, check the details for each campsite to see which sites can accommodate larger vehicles. Many campsites are designed for tents or vans only.Are There Electric Hookups Available?Yes. 49 campsites have electric hookups that can support 20, 30 or 50 amps. Most campsites in Moraine Park Campground are standard non-electric sites. Before making your reservation, check each individual campsite for details.Is a Timed Entry Reservation Included with my Camping Reservation?Yes. A "Timed Entry+ Bear Lake Road" Reservation is included with your overnight camping reservation. Your campground reservation will serve as your vehicle timed entry reservation. Campers can enter RMNP via the Grand Lake, Beaver Meadows or Fall River Entrances beginning at 1 p.m. on the first day of their camping reservation.Remember to print and bring a copy of your campground reservation with you and keep this in your vehicle. You will be asked to show your campground reservation confirmation at the park's entrance station upon arrival. If you exit the park, be prepared to show your confirmation every time you return.  When Can I Check into My Campsite?Check In begins at 1 p.m. for all campsites in Rocky Mountain National Park. What Time is Check Out?All campers must check out of their campsites by 12 p.m. (noon). How Many Nights Can I Stay at Moraine Park Campground?In Rocky Mountain National Park, there is a 7-night limit for all campgrounds during the summer season. This means that campers can stay a total of 7 nights inside the park. This limit includes overnight stays at all campgrounds. For instance, a camper could spend 7 nights at Moraine Park Campground, or they could stay 3 nights at Glacier Basin Campground and 4 at Timber Creek Campground.Do Your Part to Help New Plants Grow - Stay Off of Hydroseeded AreasMoraine Park Campground has recently been re-seeded after construction!  This process, called hydroseeding, applies a combination of local native seed, mulch fiber, and water to disturbed areas, and looks similar to fine straw.  Over the next couple of years, this seed will germinate and help restore the local native plant communities we know and love.  Please protect these fragile areas by using designated paths and keeping kids and pets out of hydroseeded areas.

Had a great time. The camp site was next to a trail head. The trail, only 7 miles, had a river, lake, mountains, and valley. This was an amazing spot.

Our family had an amazing time at Rocky Mountain National Park! Moraine Park Campground was a beautiful, peaceful place to stay and the perfect home base for exploring the park. Driving Trail Ridge Road was unforgettable, with breathtaking views around every turn. The hike to Emerald Lake was a highlight of our trip—scenic, family-friendly, and absolutely worth it. Just remember to get an early start or you’ll be battling big crowds!

We made wonderful memories together on this trip and can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful and spacious campsites. Conveniently located. Shuttles work well. Close to town. Like the Comfort Station concept. Plentiful wildlife. Downsides: sparse toilets and water stations. Reservations are extremely tough. Pay attention to Park and Bear Lake Road entry times, even if staying within the Park.

This was my first solo camping experience, and it's a memory I'll cherish for a long time. The campground was well maintained, peaceful, and a wonderful place to stay. One of the biggest advantages is that your reservation includes timed entry access to Bear Lake Road, which made exploring the park much more convenient.

We reserved site D237 6 months in advance. We love Loop D but you can't reserve most of the D sites until 2 weeks before, so that is very difficult when you are trying to plan a trip for a group of 4 girlfriends. The site was nice but the bear box (food storage locker) is in an odd spot--next to the tent but farther away from the picnic table. We recommend either moving the box nearer to the table, or swapping the location of the tent pad and the picnic table. We never saw the logic of why the bear box was so far from the table.

The bathroom was cleaned every other day and was generally clean. Unfortunately, other campers put trash in the bathroom one day and so it stayed there until the next cleaning. Also, other campers took the tape off the water pump that was out of service and tried to use it, creating a puddle that could have invited unwanted pests or critters. It is hard to believe that people who camp would do such things, but maybe it was kiddos.

Morraine was super beautiful... at night we would just walk around the campground "window shopping" at all the tents and looking at the views.

Great experience camping here. Campsites are a bit close and no showers, but restroom and sink facilities are awesome. Very quiet at night and campsite seemed to go to bed early. The bear lockers are big and can fit your ice chests and food and I really appreciated that conveneince, since our campsite was a bit of a walk-up(site 104). There are solar showers but you need your own water, so DEF RECOMMEND bringing your own solar shower bag so you can shower on site. Take time to go down to Bear Lake area and walk a trail by the river…so beautiful. Lots of sightseeing further inside the park—we saw lots of elk, mule deer a marmot(in the tundra), hummingbirds, and even a beaver. Hoping to catch a big horn sheep next time.

The facility was very clean and the rangers were very friendly. The access to the campsite was very convenient and easy to get to. The location of campsite was great to drive around to explore the park.

  • Camping space is extremely limited. Ensure your camping unit or equipment will fit in your chosen site. Other options may not be available. 
  • Vehicle Length - Vehicles larger than 40-feet are not permitted in Moraine Park Campground.Trailer length is the total maximum vehicle length allowable.(Trailer Length = Trailer + Hitch + Vehicle)Maximum Vehicle + Trailer Length = Vehicle + Trailer + Hitch = 40 ft at Moraine Park Campground.
  • Campers will be able to enter the park beginning at 1 p.m. on the first day of their camping reservation, which is also the check-in time for all RMNP campgrounds.
  • Entrance Fee. A park entrance fee is required to enter Rocky Mountain National Park, or show your annual or lifetime park pass. You may pay the entrance fee upon arrival.Pass Discounts on Camping. If you use a Senior or Access Pass for a camping fee discount while booking a reservation, you must present the pass and photo ID upon check-in.
  • Site Limits. Each site is limited to eight (8) persons and one camping unit (i.e., a tent, RV, or trailer/tow vehicle) plus one additional tent per site.  All tents shall be located on the tent pad. All additional camp structures must be self standing without impacts to vegetation or trees.  There is at least one parking space per site. Some sites may accommodate more than one vehicle. A vehicle is defined as one car/truck, one trailer, one RV, or one towed unit.  Each vehicle must be parked on the gravel or paved parking pad causing no resource degradation or encroachment onto the main road.  Extra vehicles must park in overflow areas.Maximum length of stay. The maximum length of stay during peak season is 7 nights. Please check the rules and regulations before making your reservation.
  • Firewood. Firewood is available for purchase at Moraine Park Campground, and all other campgrounds in Rocky Mountain National Park.Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.STOP THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE SPECIES. Remove plants, seeds, animals, and mud from boots, gear, pets, and vehicles. Clean your gear before entering and leaving the recreation site. Stay on designated roads and trails and follow local guidelines for firewood. CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY boats and any other recreational equipment that contacts water. Dispose of unwanted bait, worms, fish parts, or other organisms into the trash and not into the environment.   • Stay Out of Hydroseeded Areas!Moraine Park Campground has recently been re-seeded after construction!  This process, called hydroseeding, applies a combination of local native seed, mulch fiber, and water to disturbed areas, and looks similar to fine straw.  Over the next couple of years, this seed will germinate and help restore the local native plant communities we know and love.  Please protect these fragile areas by using designated paths and keeping kids and pets out of hydroseeded areas.
  • Prohibited Wheeled Devices. The use of skateboards, rollerblades, scooters and other similar devices is prohibited.
  • Be Bear Aware when camping. Store all food and scented (soaps/lotions/toothpaste/lip balm – anything with a scent) items inside Food Storage Boxes provided at each campsite. RMNP has a zero tolerance policy for food storage violations. Do your part to help protect wildlife.
