About Roberts Cabin

Roberts Cabin is one of the recognized historic cabins in Pike & San Isabel National Forests. The primitive cabin dates back to the mining and railroad era of the 1880s, and is eligible for placement in the National Register of Historic Places. Through the ages, the structure has been used as a residence, a blacksmith's shop and stables. In 1993, the piece of history was restored to its original form and converted for use as a cabin rental.

we stayed here because i broke my foot a few weeks prior and wanted to be out in the mountains but wasn't able to hike. it's a beautiful spot and a really unique place to stay. we lucked out finding availability on short notice and i'm really glad we did! we liked sitting around the fire pit and resting in our hammocks next to the cabin. lots of mice but there were also lots of traps in place. we saw an owl on the way in, and a moose from the cabin in the morning.

Nice rustic cabin. Plenty of sleeping spaces. 4 full beds upstairs and a futon and full bed down stairs. There is a "kitchen" type area with shelving and a table you can use to prep food. There was firewood and news papers to start a fire. I don't know if they are always there but for us there was. Previous comment in the guest book mentioned mice but they took care of it and we saw no evidence of mice. The cabin is right off the Boreas pass so there will be a lot of cars and people going by and occasionally someone will stop by to either chat or want to use the vaulted toilet. It only happened twice, but if you're looking for isolation from the world this is not your cabin. The wood burning stove worked perfectly. There are reviews saying it let smoke it but only if the doors are left open does that happen. It warms the place up great, especially the upstairs, and it's very easy to start. We went into the summer and the days were perfect and the nights were cold so layers is the key. There are hiking trails all over. I would go to Fairplay visitor center for guides on fishing, hiking, ATV, horseback riding and everything recreational. There is absolutely no cell service here and spoty service in town so be prepared! Overall it was a great experience and we are going to stay again if we can in the future because it was so much fun.
