About Jefferson Creek

Campers looking for a pleasant fishing destination with great mountain views will enjoy camping at Jefferson Creek. The campground is located a short drive or hike from Jefferson Lake. The lake is one of the highest elevation lakes around, capping 10,685 feet elevation and bordered by steep 12,000 foot peaks. Fishing in both the creek and lake offer promising catches of trout. Another noteworthy aspect of the campground is its access to the Colorado Trail.

What Guests Are Saying

Jefferson Creek Campground is a beautiful, well-maintained hidden gem with spacious sites and a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for nature lovers and families. Visitors appreciate the friendly camp hosts, clean facilities, and access to hiking trails, fishing, and wildlife sightings. However, the broken water pump and the rough access road were noted as drawbacks, along with occasional noise from generators.

Great campground, but tenters beware….. RV and trailers with generators haunt this canyon.

Jefferson Creek is a hidden gem. We had a great time as always and enjoyed some time next to the lake.

A lovely, small campground with hiking trails, a beautiful creek (and beaver ponds) and the lake nearby. There was no water when we camped there, though you could drive down to the next campground to fill up. My main complaint was the generators of campers. I could hear them a mile away from my walk down the road. Even the camp host was blasting his early in the morning! Can we get campgrounds that are generator free?

Lovely campground. The lake was about 30 feet lower than usual, but still fun to walk around and use paddleboards on. I would definitely go back to this campground.

The water pump was broken so we had to go to the other campsites to fill our water once during our stay, but this was our first time at this campground and we will be back! I loved the access to the Colorado trail for biking, the kids loved exploring the stream and many beaver ponds.

The campground, campsite and area were great. The hosts were invasive to our visit.
Regarding reserving all campsites on rec.gov overall - I have conveyed this before and I will convey it again - as you likely know the reservation system does not work. Most reserved sites go unused or are used by those that did not reserve them and unreserved sites only exist on weekdays. I assume AI bots reserve all weekends then other websites sell those for an upcharge. Just make all first come first served which worked very well in the past - you can still charge us the same fees to camp. Thank you.
