Wonderful campground!

The campground, campsite and area were great. The hosts were invasive to our visit.
Regarding reserving all campsites on rec.gov overall - I have conveyed this before and I will convey it again - as you likely know the reservation system does not work. Most reserved sites go unused or are used by those that did not reserve them and unreserved sites only exist on weekdays. I assume AI bots reserve all weekends then other websites sell those for an upcharge. Just make all first come first served which worked very well in the past - you can still charge us the same fees to camp. Thank you.

We absolutely LOVED this campground! It was spacious, peaceful, very clean, and the hosts were amazing. The vault toilets were the cleanest we have seen. There was so much to do and see here. It does get cold at night!

Campground host was very friendly and helpful. Clean toilets and basic campsites. Water pump was not functioning so be aware that you may need to bring your own water. The campground was full on a weekday so it’s probably a good idea to try to make a reservation before you arrive.

This review is from a tent/rustic camping family. The campground and surrounding area is beautiful. Creek to explore, beaver lodges, hiking trails, wildflowers, moose and deer, Jefferson Lake nearby, and big campsites. Site 14 was a bit sloped overall. The sites on the creekside are wonderful because the creek is close but not concerningly close, although the water might be low due to drought. The kids were in heaven just hanging out by the creek and fishing at Jefferson Lake. The big, tall trees provide shade pretty much all times of the day. It was hot during the day and freezing at night, so packing the correct gear is essential. The stage 2 burn ban was respected by most, but people near us had a campfire and the Park County police came, fined them, and they had to leave. I’m glad wildfire safety was taken seriously. The camp hosts were exceptional: warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. They work so hard because they are at the kiosk, the lake, and the campground. They helped us jump our car when I accidentally left a light on. Just the kindest people. I would say the only ‘negatives’ was a camper across from us had a generator going all day, which is super loud, but they turned it off at night. There is no water at the pump, so we made sure to bring plenty of water. There are biting flies and mosquitoes, but it was manageable. Some white-winged gnats came out at dusk - I’ve never seen gnats like that before. Sites 7, 9, and 17 were my favorite creekside sites, and site 15 and 16 were my other top choices.

Let’s get the bad out the way first. The roughly 2 mi dirt road into the campground is horrible. It’s washboard with medium sized boulders. Oddly, It doesn’t look bad until you start diving in it. If not pulling a trailer, it’s not a big deal, but I was pulling a 22’ travel trailer and actually broke a shelf in the cabinet. The road is the only reason I have the campground 4 stars.

I stayed in site 12. It was great pull-through site that only needed about 2” of leveling. Lots of separation from the neighboring sites. You could just barely hear the stream from the site, which was nice to listen to while sleeping. Bathrooms were close by and clean and water was available to fill (no hose attachment though). Not a big campground and no amenities for kids if you have any. Lake is a few miles away up the road. Breckenridge is about an hour away. Lots of fishing along the river, put not many official pull offs.

No cell service (Verizon).

Beautiful area. Quiet. Saw 2 moose run through our campsite.
