Great campground, the sites are huge! They were spacious enough that it didn't seem like the campground was full, even when it was. The two vault toilets were close by and in good condition, and the camp hosts were very friendly and accessible. We stayed at site #10, it was perfect! very spread out, with even ground for tents and plenty of shady trees. If you want to be by the creek, choose a site on the east side, although none of them are directly next to the creek, it's down an embankment. The creek area was still accessible from any campsite, and was lovely! We saw a mama and baby moose daily in the creek area just outside of the campground, and a bull moose farther down the road. The beavers were a bit more elusive, but if you're out early and you're patient, you'll see them in action!
Our only complaint is that the water pump was not working. It seems that could have been conveyed in an email, since it seems from reviews that it has been broken at least since October. So heads up - THERE IS NO ACCESS TO WATER! You have to drive to Aspen or Lodgepole campground down the road to access water, which isn't terrible but would have been nice to know. Otherwise great campground, definitely stay here!

Our site, 11 in Jefferson Creek was perfect, shady and big. All the sites looked really big. Host was welcoming and friendly. They left us alone after initial visit. The bathroom by 11 was super clean and stocked. Lake was close although low it was still big. Would of been perfect to kayak, but due to the wind it didn't happen. Instead we hiked around the lake. Trail was easy and flat on the east side. Trail was a little more challenging but alot more fun on the west side. Kids would love it!

Most def a hidden gem. Beautiful and peaceful campground. The host introduced himself and his wife, gave us a warm welcome, and made us aware of any animal sightings. Will certainly be back.

Great trip. Only complaint is sites are very rocky and no tent pads. Most level areas for tents were in drainages. A heavy rainstorm would guarantee tent flooding.

Great place! Creek sounds at night, trail access walking or close by, as well as the lake! Milky way is visible at night and while visiting some moose were active in the area and actually sighted one!

Jefferson Creek Campground is in a great location with access to hiking trails, rivers, and a lake. The campsites are large and they share a medium sized bear box with campgrounds adjacent to them. Jefferson Creek Campground did not have a campground host nor did it have access to water which made it a challenge as we had to drive to a nearby campsite to get water. I would have preferred to have had access to water at the site, but the pump was broken. The vault toilets were clean and we had a great weekend. I would recommend this campground again and hope they are able to fix the water issue before next season.

We went as a Scouting America Troop to Jefferson Creek and enjoyed the fishing at Jefferson Lake. I highly recommend working in a conservation project. Our Troop went along the shoreline and picked up all of the fishing lines that were left and buried in the sand/dirt and rocks. We contacted the District ahead of time and worked the conservation project out with them. Our troop will definitely be back.

Getting There
From US Highway 285 at Jefferson, Colorado, take County Road 35 north to County Road 37 and turn right. Pay the user fee at Jefferson Lake Recreation Area entrance station and continue on the road to the campground.

Jefferson Creek is accessible via US Highway 285, which is approximately 8 miles away at Jefferson, Colorado.

General
- Alert for Reservation Holders: There is a one-time fee of $11.00 to enter Jefferson Lake Recreation Area in which your campground is located. You will only have to pay this fee once for the duration of your stay. There is an Annual Pass available for purchase here. The fee for the 2025 calendar year pass is $100.00.
- Please note it is difficult to access Jefferson Lake Recreation Area during the winter months; the roads to this site are not maintained for snow throughout the winter. County Road 37 is an unpaved gravel surface road that leads to the entrance of the area.
- Be bear aware; keep all food out of sight in approved containers or locked inside your vehicle and remove all food from area after eating
- This is a high elevation facility, please use caution when traveling from lower elevations
- No RV hookups are available. Also, No pay phones are available.

- Don't Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing organisms by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Firewood is available to purchase on site, depending on any fire ban. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.
- The use, sale, and possession of all forms of cannabis in the United States is illegal under federal law on federal land.
- Shooting of any type is prohibited in the campground and Jefferson Lake Recreation Area
- ATV's and off road vehicles are prohibited in the campground and Jefferson Lake Recreation Area
- Dogs must be on a leash or tethered at all times.
- Reservations are available up to 5 days prior to arrival date. Sites not reserved 5 days before become ‘walk-up’ and are available on a ‘first come - first serve’ bases.
- Two vehicles or one RV per site is included in the camping fee. $11.00 for a third vehicle. $11.00 fee for day use if not camping overnight.
- Firewood is available for sale at host site for $10.00/bundle.
