Saddlehorn Campground

Beautiful campsite with gorgeous views! Worth the steep switchbacks to get there.

Beautiful mesa-top campground that has seriously been renovated since my last stay there 4 years ago and since my husband visited annually on geology field study trips. Much improved campsites, bathrooms, roads and trails....AND the visitor's center! Sometimes tricky navigating the campsites to find a bathroom and water, but otherwise quiet a wonderful experience!

Colorado Nat Monument views from CG area are excellent. Rim Trail is accessible and night skies are good.
Bathrooms were very clean! Campsites are all gravel and dirt and spaced out very well. In September the amount of people was very low.

This is a beautiful campground located within great views of Monument Valley. The people are very nice as well. When I ran into a problem with my campsite, Terry, the camp host was very helpful. He was also kind, funny and went out of his way to make sure that I was comfortable with the resolution of the situation. As a woman traveling alone, I appreciate that. I highly recommend this place.
My one problem was I had hoped to stay two nights, but car trouble caused me to have to cancel one. This was a little difficult on recreation.gov.; perhaps because I had already stayed one night? Not sure.

Beautiful campground. Truly one of a kind, we will be back. Explore the monument as much as you can.

Well maintained campground in a beautiful location

Saddlehorn Campground is easily one of the most scenic campgrounds I’ve stayed at. The location inside Colorado National Monument is incredible—you’re camping right on top of the canyon with massive sandstone formations, sweeping views, and some absolutely spectacular sunsets.

I stayed here while traveling through Colorado and honestly could not have picked a better stop. The campground was peaceful, the site worked well for my truck and rooftop tent, and being able to walk from camp and explore the surrounding overlooks was a huge plus. Around sunset, the entire canyon starts glowing orange and red, and the views just keep getting better as the light changes. After dark, you also get the contrast of the quiet monument with the lights of Grand Junction in the distance.

If you stay here, give yourself time in the evening to walk around the campground and nearby overlooks rather than just setting up camp and calling it a night. Some of my favorite views of the entire trip were within walking distance of my campsite.

Beautiful location, peaceful atmosphere, incredible scenery, and a campground I would absolutely stay at again. Saddlehorn is worth planning a trip around—not just using as a place to spend the night.
