About Mogote

Mogote Campground is located along the Conejos River, making it a perfect location for fishing and hiking. The pleasant campground is well shaded by groves of ponderosa pine and a mixture of cottonwood, spruce, willow and aspen. The campground is also in close proximity to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, home of America's highest and longest, coal fired, steam operated narrow-gauge railroad.

What Guests Are Saying

Mogote is highly praised for its clean and spacious campsites, friendly and attentive camp host Sam, and its beautiful natural setting near a river. Many campers enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and well-maintained facilities, including impressively clean bathrooms. However, some reviews noted issues with mosquitoes, particularly in areas near standing water, and suggested that the road conditions and overall infrastructure could use improvement.

Beautiful site, but the total lack of cell coverage can be an issue when combined with the somewhat confusing layout. The river is beautiful, clean, and easy to reach.

This area was beautiful to camp at. I
What I will say expect lots of rain and prepare for quick weather change, like sunny to dark clouds of rain and thunder. We stayed at the lower part of the campground to be closer to the river. The only problem was that RVs sometimes too big for their camp site. The fishing was awesome, and no you don't need all the fly fishing accessories to catch one. I used a simple spinner to catch dinner. The camp site it self was clean and ready to go. There is plenty of downed trees for firewood. Plenty of tarps or rain gear will keep you dry dry most of the time. We tent camp so no worry about not fitting in. Nothing fancy about the restrooms, cause its the basic standard.drinkig water was delightful and .came from a well, so it was very cool.
