This was a test case for myself and two of my boys. We normally do "primitive" camping with no amenities, but with the fire restrictions right now, staying in a campground was the only way to have a campfire (because of the "permanent metal grates" restriction) so we gave it a try. We weren't disappointed. The scenery around here is amazing, including the river which is only a short walk from the campground. The other campers we encountered were friendly, and above all, the place was QUIET overnight. No noise except once or twice when some toddlers got a little fussy for a few minutes, which is understandable. Scott - the campground host - was super friendly as well. My only word of caution (not quite a complaint) is the lady who staffs the gate at the entrance to the canyon can be a bit gruff. Be forewarned: Even though this canyon bears the "Eleven Mile" name, it's FEDERAL land, not state land, so your state parks pass is no good. You'll have to pay the $7 fee regardless. But I think she was just having a rough day because when we left just before lunchtime today, she was friendly and waved good-bye. I don't hold it against her, and it was still a 5-star experience in my book. The kids loved it!

Aside from the ravages of Mother Nature with wind and then snow, the experience at Springer Gulch was good. This is a good campground with sites well separated for privacy. Campground host was very pleasant, and came around twice a day to each occupied site to check on everyone. Only negative would be no access to Eleven Mile Reservoir unless driving out of canyon to main road - access at end of canyon has been closed; this creates added driving.
