Our site (B12) was right off the main park road so a bit loud with traffic. We would have preferred to have been located on the other side of the campground which would have put us off the campground road so far less traffic moving more slowly. Our site was also small but so were most. Otherwise, we truly enjoyed this campground. There are awesome birds including yellow warblers, spotted towhees, green-tailed towhees and black-headed grosbeaks all around. We got some stunning photos of them. Unfortunately, a fire went through this park about a month after we stayed and we don't know the condition of the campground although we have heard it was burned. When we were there, the bathroom facilities appeared new with overhead heaters that looked like they had just been installed. We loved having electricity on our campsite due to the hot, sunny days.

Site B012 on loop B; had electric which was very much appreciated given the day time temps. full campground but quiet. some shade. able to level the RV without too much difficulty.

We were evacuated in a calm, efficient manner that saved us and our property from damage.

Great site! Nice private space, and not too close to neighboring sites. Very close to trailhead for trail that goes to the visitor center.

We had reserved A27 and someone was set up there when we arrived. The camp host was great about moving us to C loop. The day after we arrived fire broke out in the park and we had to evacuate around noon. So sad for the park as it looked beautiful. Staff was excellent at notifying us that we had to pack up and leave immediately.

Decent campsite, though not tons of space. Walk down to canyon view was excellent.

Campsites were nice despite some having a strange layout, Facilities provided were clean and well stocked. Bear lockers provided at every site were clean and large enough to hold all of our supplies. Rim Rock trail was right next to our loop leading to the visitor center and Montrose was 20 minutes away when we did need to go into town. Short drive to all the south rim activities

Great experience overall - staff at the visitor center had very kind & practical advice about the Gunnison hike to the river. We were camping at the bottom of the canyon when the lightning strikes at ~3:30am early Thursday July 10th lit the north rim and south rim fires. The park began evacuations about 20 minutes after we climbed out Thursday late morning.

It is with a sad heart that we write this review, as we may have been some of the last people to camp here before the South Rim Wildfire (our checkout was the morning the fire started, and we were woken by and witness to several lightning storms - with little to no rain - throughout the early hours and typical waking hours of that morning, all right above our heads). The campground overall has tight site spots, very hard to fit even two tents, but our spot had plenty of space and was perfectly situated close to the trail that takes you to the Visitor Center, which was a wonderful hike itself (our site was visited by several deer, chipmunks, and birds probably because we were backed onto a trail). We felt tucked away from others driving into the loop (C), and had enough shade to cover our tent for at least half the day - some other sites had a little path from the parking spot to the tent pad, and these seemed to also provide that cozy "tucked away" feel. Loops were one-way, vault toilets only, drinkable water, dumpster and mixed recycling available as you left your loop. We hope that the sites are somewhat recoverable in the future and that they can be used for camping once again.
