the campsites are very small and right on top of each other; very little privacy. The areas to fish around the lake are minimal and hiking trails are a pretty good distance away. The campground is several miles away from nearby stores so if you need to pick up anything you may have forgotten, do so before getting to the campgrounds.

We stayed at site 21 in Big Rock. It was a fine site, lots of shade but not very close to the water.
The Monarch Lake parking situation was pretty crazy on Saturday. We had (with little kids) a better time parking down at the Roaring Fork trailhead and following the Knight Ridge trail down a ways to get a nice beach spot on Lake Granby.

When I reserved my site, it said max RV length of 26ft. My camper is 24 ft, so I thought "no problem". I was camping with 2 other moms for a relaxing girl's getaway. (I camp almost every weekend.. they had never been). Thanks to the rude campground host, it was anything but relaxing. We weren't causing any problems. There wasn't room for me to park my short-bed truck at my site in the same direction as my camper, so I parked horizontally, barely going beyond the campsite rails for my site. He would come over and tell me I need to move it or I'm getting a ticket. I had it parked against the front of my camper so tightly that we had to walk through the trees to get to our camper from the road. I would move it as much more as I could, which was possibly 2 more inches, and he'd say that was better. It felt like, because we were women, he thought he could berate us and talk down to us. When I told him I should be allowed to have one vehicle at my campsite, he condescendingly told me "When you book anything that ends in .gov, this is what you should expect." Treated me like obviously I don't know anything about camping. I camp almost every weekend with my two kids alone. I'm pretty sure I know what the norm is for campsites. I've also never had a bad experience with any host, because they are usually really awesome people. Positives: The bathrooms were clean, and the campground was beautiful as always. Just wish we could have enjoyed it without this guy's harassment.

This was our second trip here and it did not disappoint! Arapahoe Bay is an incredibly beautiful area. From our campsite (one of the "less" desirable ones, a little further from the water), we could constantly hear the Roaring Fork creek/river, which is a wonderful sound to listen to especially when you are going to sleep at night. Views in either directions are fantastic, and the sunsets are like none other... no words to really describe. Helpful, polite, and professional camp host. Bathrooms are cleaned diligently by staff what appeared to be at least twice daily. Highly recommended!
