The hosts were the best ones so far. This is my third year in a row coming to Collegiate Peaks Campground. Last year was kind of awful unfortunately, due to the hosts really not doing their jobs, or doing it poorly.
I love this place and will continue to come back no matter what.

The camping sites were well spread out and spacious with nice shade. However many sites appeared to not have level spots for tents. We ended up pitching our tent at the end of the driveway to the site, which worked out fine. We brought drinking /cooking water from home in two 5-gallon jugs, which was ample for 2 people for 4 nights, as the water at the campground looked suspect. We greatly enjoyed several high-elevation hikes nearby and spent a day at the Cottonwood Hot Springs which was fantastic. We had a wonderful stay!

The camp host were friendly and helpful on the days that they were there. Bathrooms were always clean and had plenty of supplies. We missed having a campfire, but understand the fire band is necessary in this very dry summer that we’re having. This is one of my very favorite campgrounds with the site being so large and spacious.

This was a great campsite for my trip to hike Mt. Yale. It was easy to get to, very spacious for one person, and perfectly located near a lot of hiking as well as the hot springs. The campsite is pretty basic, though - just a pit toilet (a very clean one) and trash facilities. That was more than enough for me.

Great campground, sites have some space between them and tons of tall trees. Bathrooms were clean, during our visit one of the water pumps wasn’t working and it’s dechlorinated water anyway so I’d bring your own.

Getting There
From Buena Vista, Colorado, take Highway 306. At the stoplight, go west for 11 mi
toward Cottonwood Pass. Campground is located on the left-hand side of the
road. Highway 306 is paved on east side of Cottonwood Pass.
Highway access
Collegiate Peaks Campground is accessed via Highway 306, which connects to the south near Buena Vista and heads west toward Cottonwood Pass.
Policies & Rules
General
- Please disinfect waders and boots when fishing in beaver ponds; this will help protect endangered toads from the spread of chytrid fungus
- Be bear aware; keep all food out of sight in approved containers or locked inside your vehicle and remove all food from area after eating
- This is a high elevation facility; please use caution when traveling from lower elevations
- No hookups available

- Don't Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing organisms by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.
- If reservations are not available, some campsites are first come-first served, also called "Walk-up" sites. First-come, first-served sites must be occupied the SAME NIGHT they are paid for. Due to the remote nature of campgrounds, calling to check availability prior to arrival is not possible.
- About 15 minutes from the Collegiate Peaks campground is Cottonwood Lake Campground, a first come-first served, no reservation facility which is located on County Road 344. It is a very popular site for campers, as well as anglers. Campsites fill up quickly on weekends. Camping and campfires are restricted in on County Rd 344 to developed campgrounds only. Starting at about 1 mile west of Cottonwood Lake campground dispersed, primitive camping is allowed.
- Two vehicles or one RV/Trailer and tow vehicle per site is included in the camping fee. $10.00 for a third vehicle.
- Firewood is available for sale at host site for $10.00/bundle.
