Campground host insisted on collecting an additional $21 (in cash, no receipt) from us for extra vehicle in site 37, which is a long site that holds two vehicles and two trailers. We reserved and paid for the site on recreation.gov, stating our intent to have two vehicles and trailer length of 35 feet. So the extra vehicle charge was unwarranted, and even had it been it should have taken into account our use of a lifetime senior pass that would have reduced the $21 charge to $10.50. The campground host that collected this charge was never seen again during our three night stay.

It's a very nice camp site, clean, quite, and can't beat the views.

First of all, the restrooms were VERY clean but our campsite, not so much. Upon arrival, there was dog poop all over the site. Campsites are spaced pretty close together so we had kids from adjacent sites constantly running through our camp. Last complaint is quiet hours are supposed to be at 10:00pm. Both nights we were there we had to listen to some lady cackling like a hen until 2:30 am. Not sure if the hosts make rounds after hours but it didn’t seem like they did. Area is beautiful and lake access is a little bit of a hike. I’m not even 40 but already feel like a grumpy old man writing this review. First time here and will be my last time (camping) at Prospector. Not sure if any of the other nearby campgrounds were better.

Really cool little campground, the sites were spaced nicely, the camp itself and pit toilets were very clean, and the hosts were very friendly. The campgrounds location was really neat, over looking Lake Dillon so you got some really nice views. Lots of fun spots to walk down to the lake and go skip rocks. Parking spots were level and had plenty of room for pulling in and out. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, the windchill off the lake can get it pretty chilly at night but then again thats all part of the fun. Great spot to stay if you’re hanging around summit county!

This campground doesn’t have a fill station for campers. You’ll need to go down the road to Upper Blue Sanitation District to fill or dump. Our kids loved the fantastic secret fort — totally worth going to see it over near the water just a ways out from one of the loops. We all loved the hike that starts near the main road entrance.

Campers must occupy the site the first night at a campsite. This prevents booking the site for Fri-Sun and showing up on Saturday. |
| General |
Campers may leave the site for 24 hours and must occupy the site otherwise. This allows a camper to say go for an overnight backpack trip in the woods for one night and come back to their campsite the next day. |
