The site was nice, level for tent camping. I did not like the 2 night weekend policy. It seems more availability would be open if people could book for only 1 night in the high country.

Beautiful site. Very quiet mid-week stay. Restrooms, stopped by several, were all very clean. My site #38 had good privacy. Trees are now between 8-12’ tall still had a great view of sunset over Buffalo Mtn to the NW.

We were pleased with our camp spot. It was clean and roomy with a great view. The road into the camp sites, however, is less than acceptable. The ruts have gotten so deep and frequent that the term washboard is accurate.

It was disappointing that there was no running water in the entire campground. For the price we paid, there should’ve been water at each campsite and bathrooms with showers.

Just about everyone had RV's w/ generators (and did not turn them off during quiet hours), no running water at the spigots, access to the lake was cut off, constantly being patrolled by the sheriff, and then kids and adults going directly through our campground and disturbing our dogs

We enjoyed our stay at the campground. We had a large group, and even though they were located in a different loop, it was easy to get around and everything was close. We especially loved finding the beautiful lake trail and the views from the campground were stunning.

The website had confusing & misinformation on it regarding water. It said no filling RVs , but you could fill water jugs at the spigots. The spigots were all taped closed!! We came prepared but the website needs to have accurate information.
PLEASE replace the dilapidated wooden picnic tables!!! Some sites have the metal tables & others have the wooden ones that need some work!!
Also…. PLEASE do something about the entry road!! Going even 8 mph with a camper or car was extremely bad!!! Heaton bay campground all have paved roads & paved sites. Spend a little money on Prospector CG and make it a little nicer!!

Getting There
From I-70, take the Silverthorne exit 205. Travel east on Highway 6,
approximately 4 mi to Swan Mountain Road. Turn right and travel for 2 mi to Prospector and Windy Point Campground sign. Take dirt road 1 mi to campground entrance.

Access to Prospector Campground is via I-70, with the Silverthorne exit 205 leading to Highway 6, which is approximately 4 miles from the campground.

General
- Please Note: One RV with tow per single site or one vehicle per tent site. Most sites can accommodate 1 extra vehicle that is not included with the reservation fee. Extra vehicle will be charged a per night fee and collected at the campground.
- Body contact with reservoir prohibited; no swimming, water skiing, jetskiing, or scuba diving in the lake
- Prevent the spread of invasive species by inspecting and cleaning packs, equipment, and tires before using lake or trails
- Reserved Sites will be held until check out time (ELEVEN) the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of that following day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests.Once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.
- Fire Restrictions: Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed.
- Don't Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing organisms by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.
- Any accepted senior passes must be entered for the discount at the time of booking for single sites only.

- Campers must occupy the site the first night at a campsite. This prevents booking the site for Fri-Sun and showing up on Saturday.
- Campers may leave the site for 24 hours and must occupy the site otherwise. This allows a camper to say go for an overnight backpack trip in the woods for one night and come back to their campsite the next day.
- It is imperative that you are clear from the site at 11:00am on your check out day so the host can come prepare the site for the next event. Please don't be the group that makes the incoming group have to wait.
