We enjoyed the views and remote feeling at the campground while still being only a short drive from towns. The campground is well maintained, with the bathrooms as clean as could be expected for pit toilets with no running water.

Prospector has always been one of our favorite places to camp. We try to make it every year, as the location is central to all the activities in Summit County.

Campground was quiet and peaceful was there Sunday-Tuesday. Plenty of beautiful hiking trials and views. The camp host was great, and checked on things regularly, bathrooms were clean. All around great experience, definitely plan to come back.

The proximity to the lake and it being about a 15 minute drive off of i-70 are the selling points. However, this particular site is right on top of the one next to it. Most sites seemed pretty cramped. There also isn't a ton of tree cover either. I would stay at this campground again, but would look for a different site.

Mid-week in mid-August....Peak One had no available sites, but Prospector had plenty to choose from. The sites around us were not taken, and it was SO peaceful and quiet!

We got a site in the D loop and it’s hands down the best loop! Some sites are not as good but the back side above the lake are the ones. Clean toilets and convenient trash dumpsters. Water was limited the duration of our stay. I am highly recommending this place despite your site choice! Biking, hiking, camping and more!

Getting There
From I-70, take the Silverthorne exit 205. Travel east on Highway 6,
approximately 4 mi to Swan Mountain Road. Turn right and travel for 2 mi to Prospector and Windy Point Campground sign. Take dirt road 1 mi to campground entrance.

Access to Prospector Campground is via I-70, with the Silverthorne exit 205 leading to Highway 6, which is approximately 4 miles from the campground.

General
- Please Note: One RV with tow per single site or one vehicle per tent site. Most sites can accommodate 1 extra vehicle that is not included with the reservation fee. Extra vehicle will be charged a per night fee and collected at the campground.
- Body contact with reservoir prohibited; no swimming, water skiing, jetskiing, or scuba diving in the lake
- Prevent the spread of invasive species by inspecting and cleaning packs, equipment, and tires before using lake or trails
- Reserved Sites will be held until check out time (ELEVEN) the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of that following day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests.Once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.
- Fire Restrictions: Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed.
- Don't Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing organisms by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.
- Any accepted senior passes must be entered for the discount at the time of booking for single sites only.

- Campers must occupy the site the first night at a campsite. This prevents booking the site for Fri-Sun and showing up on Saturday.
- Campers may leave the site for 24 hours and must occupy the site otherwise. This allows a camper to say go for an overnight backpack trip in the woods for one night and come back to their campsite the next day.
- It is imperative that you are clear from the site at 11:00am on your check out day so the host can come prepare the site for the next event. Please don't be the group that makes the incoming group have to wait.
