Alvarado Campground

Beautiful campground with large sites. The location is perfect for hiking in the Sangres. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. We did have a bear in our campsite at night, but that is not unexpected in this area.

Paula was an absolutely wonderful camp host! She was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. You can tell she genuinely cares about the campground and the people visiting it. She helped make our camping experience extra special, and we truly appreciated everything she did. Alvarado Campground is lucky to have her—we can’t wait to return!

Stayed in #21 a double site. Very nice but too small for 2 campers. It would be perfect for 2 tents. The campground is beautiful, well maintained, right off the Rainbow Trail and close to Westcliffe. The hosts were excellent and kept everything in tip top shape. We enjoyed our week very much.

The camp ground was beautiful, great access to trails, awesome trees. Our particular site, #39, wasn't ideal as it was on a hill and not many flay spots for chairs. That said, we still had a great time and would revisit.

We had a wonderful time camping. We stayed in spot 22 and it was big enough for our 29 ft camper. We were close to bathrooms and water spout. The campground was spacious, bathrooms were clean, there were hiking trails from the campground. Easy drive into Westcliffe to shop/get ice cream. We spent half a day at Deweese Dye Reservoir. It was less than a 30 min drive from the campground. Westcliffe has an awesome Ace store, lots of coffee shops, a decent grocery store, different choices in eating places and cute shops on the main street. What would make this campground one notch higher would be if the Alpine Lodge reopens with their restaurant.

Restrooms were clean and well stocked. Host made rounds on my second night. Campground is well situated for access to wonderful hikes in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the north and south. Beautiful area.

Sites 26 and 27 had no tent pads and were small and very close together with no privacy. All the sites are very close. The bathrooms were also not very well maintained, including one that was missing toilet paper.

The pro was that it was very quiet.

Great stay. The campground hosts were the best.! They helped us out with a couple of mechanical situations.

Terry the camp host sure went above and beyond to help ensure I had a good stay despite some other campers who had moved into my reserved spot before I arrived. Thank you, Terry, for doing your best to avoid conflict and make sure everyone was happy but also honoring my reservation and those of other campers. We did end up in a different spot, but all of Alvarado is lovely and it worked out fine.

Reserved a tent site in advance. Was surprised by how many first-come-first-serve sites were still available on a weekend.

Perfect camping location to take full advantage of the Comanche and Venable trails. Not far from Westcliffe.

Would definitely stay at this campground again.
