The campground is nicely maintained and bathrooms are well kept. The Spring can get very crowded with people coming to enjoy for the day so recommend walking/biking from campground to the Spring. If you plan to go down the river on paddle board, canoe, or kayak there are rentals available or you can bring your own but you have to park a little ways away at the unloading curb side and walk a bit with your water equipment but the park provides kayak dollyβs. Prepare to see lots of wildlife in the water and at your campsite (especially raccoons if you do not keep a clean campsite). The general store at the spring had snacks, ice, swag, and sβmores essentials but the one thing I was craving that they did not have was ice cream. My only critique is that they get some ice cream in the store. Overall the park employees are very nice and enthusiastic about all things nature.

We had a great time camping at Alexander Springs. One of my favorite places to visit for swimming and paddling. Campsites are nicely private and surrounded by beautiful vegetation.
My only complaint would be that the camping bathhouse/ bathrooms were constantly dirty. I would describe them as nasty most of the time.warm water for showers was limited if not nonexistent. I think the bathhouse should be cleaned more often.

4 stars for check-in process. Came on a Sunday and waited in the long line of cars for over 50 minutes. Needs to be a separate check-in process for people with paid for reservations. The grounds are well maintained. Slight road noise during the day, but next to nothing at night. Bathrooms are decent and pretty clean for a campground. Running water, plenty of toilet paper and soap. Next to no bugs inside. Campsite (I stayed at 54) nice layout. Clean fire ring and grill. Clean and large bear box. Sturdy, clean picnic table. Plenty of spots for tent setup. Could fit a 30ft RV. The Spring is beautiful. Bring a paddle board or canoe to really experience it. Will be back!

Campground is well shaded, but too close to others. With that said, noise is an issue whether itβs from you or your neighbors. Kayaking was nice and well priced rentals. Hiking was disappointing since the boardwalk is still in disrepair.

Alexander Springs Recreation Area is located along County Road 445 in the northeast corner of Lake County between Astor and Altoona, Florida.
From I-75, take Highway 40 east through Ocala and Silver Springs approximately 40 miles to Highway 19. Go south on Highway 19 approximately 5 miles to Country Road 445. Go east on 445 for 5 miles to the campground.
From I-95, take the Ocala/Silver Springs Exit (Highway 40) west for approximately 35 miles to Highway 19. Go south on Highway 19 approximately 5 miles to County Road 445. Go east on 445 for 5 miles to the campground.
Alexander Springs Recreation Area is accessible via State Road 40, which is approximately 15 miles to the north. US Highway 441 is also nearby, providing additional access to the area.
