What a terrific campground and host. Our tent site was spacious and comfortable. The camp host was very friendly and helpful. The view from our tent site was great, and we were able to get right on the hiking loop around the lake. The bathrooms and showers were clean (as clean as it can be at a rustic campsite). We would stay here again.

The dirt/gravel road was easy to navigate, just take it slow. Site was quiet and spacious. Restroom/shower was close to my site. Lovely day use area by the campground, with benches and beautiful views of the lake. Restrooms could use upgrading.

This is a very beautiful and peaceful campground. Despite the 2 mi trip on a dusty dirt road, the campground is worth the trip.

The smell of horse manure was overwhelming, and I had to spend much of my time away from the site. I do not think I should have to stay on a site that horses were allowed to stay with manure left behind for others to deal with. It is right on the Florida trail and was easy to hike. Host was very nice.

The camp was a wonderful surprise. I wasn’t expecting such a great view and even in drought conditions the water quality in the lake was excellent.

We loved staying here. Small secluded campground in the woods next to a lake. We used Starlink for internet with no problems. Our cell phones rarely had service, unless we drove out to a main road or connected to Starlink. The bathrooms were not great, but the camp host does his best to keep them clean. But hikers come in from the Florida Trail with buddy boots so that's a hard job. The shower is water saver push button type. There is no heat in the bathrooms, so if it's cold be prepared.

Take SR 20 west from Tallahassee through Hosford to Bristol. Turn south on SR 12. Continue south to the Apalachicola National Forest boundary sign and look for a sign for Camel Lake soon after you pass the work station and trailhead on the left. T...
Take SR 20 west from Tallahassee through Hosford to Bristol. Turn south on SR 12. Continue south to the Apalachicola National Forest boundary sign and look for a sign for Camel Lake soon after you pass the work station and trailhead on the left. Turn left on Forest Road 105, which is an unpaved road. Drive 2 mi to the recreation area entrance on the right.
Highway access
Camel Lake Campground is accessible via State Road 20 and State Road 12, which provide connections to the surrounding areas.
Policies & Rules
General
- No motor boats permitted on the lake.
- CAUTION: Bears and other animals frequent the area. All food must be kept in approved containers.
- There are no walk in only sites. All sites at this facility can be reserved. Tent camping is allowed at all the sites.
