What Guests Are Saying
Fort Pickens Campground offers a beautiful, secluded environment with friendly campers and staff, making it a great spot for families and outdoor enthusiasts. While the campground is well-maintained and features nice updated restrooms, some areas need maintenance, such as uneven asphalt and cleanliness in the showers. Despite minor issues, many visitors express a strong desire to return, enjoying activities like biking, fishing, and exploring the historic Fort Pickens.

The campground is fine. The campsites are a bit close to each other, particularly front to back, so I would recommend getting a campsite that's on the outside of the loop. The bathhouse is nice, showers are warm. Be prepared for just how lousy humanity has become. The showers repeatedly were abused. People left trash in there, someone left a bowel movement in there on 2 separate occasions during our week there. Someone chained a deep cycle battery to the sink in the handicapped stall they were recharging at the outlet there, etc. etc. The campground? Pretty decent though a little tight. The people who work and volunteer there? Hardworking and unappreciated. Some of the people camping there? I wish harm on no one, but there are some that I wish could be taught how to be a decent human, by any means necessary.

If you did not or will not pay for the America the Beautiful pass then I recommend not camping here or planning around paying $35 each time you re-enter the park that houses your campground.
Be prepared to have no introduction to the park or campground and to have your legal name displayed for all to see. Ranger was rude when I brought up my reservation and berated me for not knowing I needed to show my pass first. I was not trying to use my reservation as a pass, I simply had no idea and the Ranger was incredibly condescending and rude and offered 0 insight on how I even access my campsite.
After getting through the Ranger on a power trip, I just blindly start searching for my campsite because there is no check-in station or ranger to check you in. Luckily, the previous guests had left and I found my last name broadcasted to park guests and rangers alike. Unnecessary invasion of privacy.
The facilities are extremely outdated. There is a prison toilet in one of the facilities. Bring shower slippers.
The beach is the saving grace. Options for Gulf or Sound. I went in late March and the water was still too chilly to swim but overall it was really nice.
Oh, do not expect wheelchair access to the beach as the beach directly in front of the campsite has a boardwalk but it’s warped from heat and looks like no plans to fix.
The major red flag for me was at the campsite there are 0 water level flags. You don’t know the water conditions and the service is spotty so you can’t look it up. You would have to complete an 8 mile drive at 25 mph to find the flag.
Additionally, couldn’t enjoy the Fort Pickens tour because it was all online and again, no service.
I would consider going back if the park upgraded their facilities and also figure out a smart, efficient system of allowing campers in.
We already pay taxes for these parks. Charging $35 every time you leave and enter is highway robbery. Shame on you NPS.

Good campground with clean bathrooms and easy access to the beach and Fort Pickens. I stayed in site B13, which I strongly suggest avoiding if possible. It’s positioned directly in line with the entrance, so every vehicle that entered the campground lit up the entire site with its headlights. There was basically no privacy at night.

Campground was clean and and tidy. Hosts were welcoming and helpful. Fellow guests were very pleasant and respectable. Beach was very sandy with lots of sun and waves! Couldn't ask for much more!

Beautiful beaches and water on the Gulf of Mexico and on the Pensacola Bay side. Some decent biking trail if you want to get off the pavement.
