This was our first time at this camp ground. If I would have know that the site was down a hill, I would have picked a different site. Needed 4wheel drive to get the camper up the hill when we left. The water access was great on site#12. The bathrooms were kept clean and the staff were great. Overall a good stay.

I have been camping here for years
Wife and I love the area, quiet and clean.
We have been to other campgrounds in area, but Winfield is the best.
Campsites are far apart so you have privacy.
Only wish they would stay open year around.

The staff are great. Polite, the site was clean; the view awesome and neighbors are not right in your space. :)
But the ants... the ants are the WORST we have ever seen. We've been here before and know about ants and treating. We treated our camper and our truck. They got into the engine of our diesel truck. They found ways to get into the camper - walking up the power and water poles, across on cord and hoses. We finally had to spray the poles too. They were in our bedroom, in the bathroom. In the back of the truck, in the front of the truck, in the water toys, the kayak... No food and when food was outside, they ignored it. Everything was sprayed at least once with home defense along with dusting the ground with Sevin. The ants are relentless.
Tips - always make sure that there is NOTHING leaning against your camper - not a fishing pole, a lawn chair, a toy. And before they find you - spray everything - the scissor jacks, the tires, the blocks under your jack. Make sure nothing that touches your camper touches the ground without dousing it in pesticide and if it rains - do it again. Patrol the camper every day looking for incursions on the outside and inside. Once they get on your roof (watch for tree branches) they will be in your camper for weeks. I killed them for a week in the camper and the truck after coming home and we hadn't seen one inside either for the last few days before we left.
All COE campgrounds have ants, but this is the worst. We've spent literally several months in COE sites in the last three years - across the south and even some up on the Mississippi and Winfield is the worst.
Other than that - it's a great location - far enough away that there's not lots of traffic (except boats on weekend) and not far from Evans which has good shopping, restaurants and Walmart/Lowes to get more ant killer. :) The Disc Golf capital of the world is about a 20 minute ride and Mistletoe State Park is close too. No trails at Winfield.

The site was clean and in great shape! The grass was cut! The weather was perfect! I just need a solution for those pesky ants. 😩

Winfield has been our "go to" campsite for many years. The sites are big and spacious, lake sites have wonderful views, and the gate keepers (campground hosts) are informed, pleasant, and helpful. With the Covid restrictions in place, check in was smooth and quick. Water and electric, moveable tables, fire pits, and grills are on each site. There is a designated beach area (no lifeguards) for supervised swimming and a small park (not open due to Covid restriction). We enjoyed riding bikes, playing corn hole, swimming, tubing, skiing, and kayaking. Boats can be tied at the lake's banks near most sites. (The COE has lifejackets for use if extra are needed). Seeing deer, geese, jumping fish, birds, squirrels, butterflies, and lizards were fun for the grandchildren. The American flags on the site posts were a nice touch of patriotism. However our recent trip was a little disappointing as far as the trash and litter beside the roads and in the woods of the camp sites. It seems campers have forgotten the camping rule "leave the site better than you found it". The bathhouse was not as clean as usual and was quite a spooky feeling taking a shower alone after dark. The amount of fallen trees, limbs, and overgrown undergrowth surrounding the sites made for more anxiety in possible "creepier" animals. With only a few weeks left in the camping season there, hopefully a good over all park cleaning could be scheduled before reopening. Maybe a "Friends of Winfield Campground" could help with concerns. Overall, Winfield is one of the nicer COE parks and we would love for it to become a year round park again.
