It is sad to see what the Corps of Engineers are doing to these beautiful campgrounds. They used to be so pristine and well maintained but now the grass goes without being mowed, fallen trees are just moved far enough to allow access to the sites and dangerous dead trees are allowed to stand right next to campers just waiting for the right wind to fall...on whatever or whoever is under them. Old Federal is not the only campground they are doing this to, all of the Corps sites around Lake Lanier in Georgia are either closed or going without adequate maintenance. The camp host are disillusioned knowing they cannot do anything about it, the Corps has cut the budget to the bone.

We have been camping at Old Federal for 20+ years it is such a beautiful park and it is a shame that you don’t cut the grass it’s just about waist high and snakey also

Our site offered a beautiful view of the lake. The campground was quiet. Only issue was the maintenance of the facilities. The grass was not mowed and the dump was overflowing with trash for two days. These little issues took away from the experience.

Beautiful views, very quiet and peaceful. Bathrooms super clean something that you don’t encounter at camping sites.

We LOVE old Federal! Site 33 was amazing! The views were great. Plenty of room for the kids to run. It is very shaded, so be prepared for colder temps if you aren’t camping on this spot in the summer. You also get some lake winds.

Old Federal has always been one of our top five campgrounds. We typically visit the park at least once every year. As always, we enjoyed our trip here in 2023. We love the private-feeling campsites and friendly staff there. We especially love the fact that the rules are strictly enforced there, eliminating the usual late-night partiers and massive amounts of vehicles parked all over campsites that we unfortunately experience when staying at State Parks. As far as location, Old Federal is close to many restaurants and activities. If you are a water sport person, it has a nice boat ramp with easy access to Lake Lanier.

Really nice part of the country. Many sites on the water which are also very level. Firewood was self serve from the bin with cash envelopes or one can easily walk the wooded areas to find plenty of wood that was cut down - use a hand saw or battery operated quiet one. Our stay was perfect to see the many goslings. Nice shower facilities, boat ramp, and the remote tent sites looked very worth while.
