Neat campground for two night stay. Restrooms across from our site were closed. Roads in our section full of pot holds and very narrow.

Park was quiet but no office or store. We reserved 19 and 20 and both sites were by dump station. Smell was horrible. Bathroom/showere were clean but you have to press a button every 5 seconds to keep water flowing. Water was luke warm.

I liked this site so well that I returned with family so they could experience it for themselves. You can't go wrong with any spot because they are spacious and kept up. The manager and other grounds workers were so friendly and helpful. We were new campers and he helped us city folk make a fire. That meant a lot to us for him to take time away from his busy duties to make sure we were ok and enjoyed our camping experience. I would recommend anyone to come here! We also enjoyed the clean water and beach!

If attendant is not present at entrance upon arrival and you have a confirmed reservation go to your site and setup. The attendant shows up and checks you in.

We enjoyed our first camping trip at Morganton in mid-September. We stayed at site 10, which isn't quite level, but after a few tries, we got our A frame camper fairly leveled out. This site is also very shady, and an easy walk up hill to the bath house. A very short walk down to the road and across to either sites 11 or 9 gave us easy lake access. We had a nice view of the lake from our picnic table, especially while site 9 was unoccupied! While there were no campers at 9, we used that site for easy access to the lake with our kayaks. The fire ring at site 10 is very deep, so we didn't think it was the best for charcoal cooking and we used a small charcoal grill instead. However, it was great for having a fire at night. We both agreed that the bath house was the largest & cleanest we have ever yet seen at a campground! Since our camper doesn't have a bathroom, this is important. We had plenty of space between our site and the sites on each side of us. This is a smaller campground, but extremely shady, quiet & peaceful. Being on Lake Blue Ridge is really great! There is a trail near site 1 that leads to the Morganton Point recreation area, for swimming & picnics (plenty of picnic tables) and also a boat launch. There was a brochure for Capt'n Joe's Lake Adventures & we took a 2 hr pontoon tour with him & his wife Sue, which was excellent! Highly recommend! Very informative about the lake, dam, & history, plus very scenic. While camping, we went to Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge, Terri's Treasure Trove on Lakewood Hwy (close to the campground), Humane Society of Blue Ridge Upscale Resale & Thrift Store. Stanley Rapids of the Toccoa River on Aska Road were beautiful & great for cooling off! Next time we need to do some hiking. Sunsets from site 5 at Morganton and by the tent area parking lot were incredible!

It is a place to camp when other campgrounds are full...unless you get one of the two good sites. Most sites are muddy because of a general problem with water run-off facility wide. The beach is really muddy with rip-rap (softball+ sized gravel) strewn all over the place. It's in a great location though and if you can ignore those things you'll love it.
The thing we couldn't ignore was the camp host overkill (4 camp hosts). Not only are they hogging the best sites, they are more like police than hosts. They constantly patrol back and forth throughout the small campgrounds. Our site was directly across from one of the hosts and we felt like we were under constant surveillance. I don't believe I've ever seen activity and staring in my life...and I see a lot of that living in N. GA.
To make this an excellent campground they would need to do some serious erosion control/drainage management, clean the beach up, and trim down to only one camp host, which would be more than enough for such a small area

Campers are able to utilize the day use area for free, but if you have a vehicle parked in the day use parking lot then you have to pay the day use fee. You can be dropped off at the day use area and park at your campsite if you like. |
