What Guests Are Saying
Buttermilk Campground receives numerous positive reviews for its cleanliness, well-maintained facilities, and friendly camp hosts. Reviewers appreciate the spacious campsites, recent upgrades, and the peaceful environment, especially after Labor Day. However, some concerns were raised about the condition of the access road and occasional noise from nearby boat traffic, as well as specific issues with odors and worn picnic tables at certain sites. Overall, many guests express a desire to return and recommend the campground.

You cannot move your atv/utv in the campground. According to camp host, it is a $400 fine if the wheels touch the ground in the campground. There is an unsecured parking area to park your machine, about 200-500 yards from the campsites. Bring extra locks and cables, plus a tote to take your valuables back to your campsite.

Didn't know what to expect because there were no real photos, just a generic, unflattering pic of a picnic table in full sun. We were pleasantly surprised to find this is a densely treed area and right next to a lake (1-3 minute walk for most sites). We sat by the lake in the evening to watch the fish jump--a lot--and were blessed with a cow moose that came down to the shore to drink and swim a little, about 100 ft. away from us! Most sites are spacious, shaded (choice of morning or afternoon shade depending on how you're oriented in the loop) with plenty of room for our 35' pull trailer. We got rain that night, so were very pleased that the sites are gravel that drains quickly (road was muddy, tho). We'll definitely come back to stay longer. Spotless restrooms. Great campground.

Really nice campground. Nice people camping, nice host, nice bear going around when we were there 😂 It's a good spot. Ah, no showers (we didn't know about that), also no showers in the area at all. Gotta use the river near by haha

Beautiful campground with great spacing between sites. Camp host was kind and helpful. Bathrooms were as clean as non flushing toilets can be (of course you’d always prefer flushing toilets and it would be ideal to have a sink but maybe down the road that will happen)! We had no problem foraging wood for our campfire, just all around a great stay. We will definitely be returning!

The hosts were a little rude. Our neighbor ran a generator all night despite it being against the rules. Otherwise a nice site in beautiful Island Park.

Loved the campground, the lake and the area! The camp host was great! Camp spots awesome! Plenty of space for larger trailers. We were able to walk to the lake. There were little docks where the kids could jump in. Only one complaint… people can’t seem to read the 10mph signs. Come on! It’s a campground… lots of kids at play. Go slow people!
