Sites there are quite large and enough room for privacy. Only thing I could have wished for is easier access for kayaks closer to campsites.

South Marcum is a great spot and well maintained. We were very disappointed that the beach at North Marcum had been closed to boats. It made it convenient and fun to get there by boat from South Marcum. and kids enjoy a few hours on the Sandy beach. To utilize the beach now requires you to drive. Punish those that cause the disruptions. We encountered some vulgar language and alcohol consumption from non boaters while at the beach.

Great campground but rangers seem to deliberately make checkin as difficult as possible. No early checkin even when camp site empty. Hard to even find anyone in gatehouse. Every visit it’s a problem

Stayed on site 007 in the Owl’s Roost Loop for 5 days. First I must say that South Marcum Campground is one of the nicest COE campgrounds we’ve visited. Hosts are very friendly and accommodating. There are some beautiful campsites here both on and off the waters of Rend Lake. The bathrooms and shower facilities are some of the cleanest I’ve ever seen. An 8 foot wide paved bike path starts in this campground and runs for miles around the southern part of Rend Lake which is a biker’s dream. Deer walking right up into the campsites daily. I will say that the sites on Owl’s Roost Loop can get very noisy from interstate traffic if the wind is blowing in the right direction, so I will be avoiding this loop in the future. The other loops in the campground seemed much quieter. This is an excellent campground that we have already made two future reservations for.

I have held my Solo Woman’s Camp Gathering at South Marcum for the past 3 years. They have never failed to keep us all happy. It’s friendly, clean, quiet and welcoming. I will hold my event there again next year.

Quite a few of the sites don't have water so if that's important to you pay attention to the description of the site. In a few of the loops the ground is unlevel leading to some leveling challenges. Good CG for walking.

Everything was great, exept the sewer smell at the spot (#50) we stayed at.

This campground is incredibly maintained. One of the cleanest, family friendliest campgrounds we’ve ever camped at. Highly recommend!
