Coon Creek is a large campground that sits on the western shore of Lake Shelbyville in the heart of central Illinois. Families enjoy the playground, swimming area and shaded campsites within the facility. Clean place and the shower houses are clean and the restrooms are well maintained. I have been going every other weekend for the summer and really enjoying then entire place and the hostess are great people and very helpful

I had a reservation for one site but when we got to the site we didn’t like it so we ask the attendant if we could switch. He cheerfully switched it for us!

The site had power issues. We lost power on the 3rd night. I notified the camp host in the morning. A ranger came by and was able to have a maintenance person come out to troubleshoot and attempt to repair the power post. He found the power pole was showing @48v on the metal frame of the post. He replaced post and intermittently it was still showing @48v on the metal frame of the post.

Site 10, great level spot! Nice shady site. one site away from the bathhouse. My only complaint would be that the campground map indicated a water hookup near the site, but the hookup had been relocated to the other side of the bathhouses and was not operational. Overall, this did not affect our experience. I like the added benefit of being able to stretch a hose to fill back up if needed!

We awanted to move out lacation to a spot that was vacated. We found spot was vacant both physically and on the website...but the rangers still did not let us move our camp to that location because according to them, it's still paid for few days. 🤦🏽‍♂️...so why was it available on the website?

Love the campground but it needs to have fish cleaning station. Why was it removed this is the largest campground on the lake.

  • Attention – Customers who do not arrive at the campground by on the day after scheduled arrival date will be No Showed. Please Review the R1S No Show policy for complete details.
  • Must have a reservation prior to setting up on site.
  • Must check-in at fee booth during normal operation hours.
  • No alcohol permitted in beach area.
  • Tent camping is always permitted, but not recommended for some sites
  • One RV and three tents or four tents per site
  • Two RVs and six tents, or eight tents for double sites
  • The banks are steep and it may be difficult to get to the water from many sites
  • No outside firewood allowed; obtain or purchase firewood at or near your camping destination and burn it on-site; firewood can carry invasive insects and diseases that destroy forests; learn more
  • Don't Move Firewood: Protect your forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. Visit Dontmovefirewood.org for further information.
