We love the campground. We went on a holiday weekend and there were no activities going on or anything extra. Also, when you make the reservation, we indicated that we would have 2 cars. But, our second car was charged $8 each night. That was irritating since we already indicated this on the reservation. If you are going to charge extra, then don’t ask how many cars will be there.

We stay at Hardin Ridge about every two weeks and last time there was a severe storm that took down trees and power poles all over the area. We expected to be turned away but the friendly team of hosts had worked hard to clear the roadway and campsites of limbs and debris. We got to enjoy another weekend at camp, hats off to the team at Hardin!!!

Cabins at Hardin Ridge (we stayed in Cabin 2) were in a great spot on the lake and secluded from other campsites. Everything was very clean, grounds and amenities were well cared for. Unfortunately the beach was closed (though there seems to be nowhere online you can find this information before arriving). Staff was hard to reach throughout our stay, but it was a great escape otherwise!

I’ve camped all over the country and I’ve camped at 41 national parks and nearly every state in the US—I am not new to camping. This was one of the more miserable camping experiences I’ve had simply due to the insane number of ticks. I understand that this is a risk anywhere, particularly in the Midwest, but they were literally dropping out of trees onto our heads and crawling onto our legs under the picnic table. After removing more than two dozen ticks from my kids, we opted to leave early. Cutting back some of the brush and undergrowth surrounding the sites might help reduce the likelihood of tick exposure. (We saw black widows as well—we will not be back.)
