A very nice campground. A good amount of space between sites. Many shaded sites, but that also cuts down on reception of internet to next to nothing. That is my biggest complaint at this campground is the internet service is very very poor. There is a nice 25 mi bike trail (round trip). They have done some recent repairs which has helped it a lot. Since the bike trail almost circles the campground, it provides for a great place for walkers and much of it is shaded. 1/4 of it is along the river which provides for nice eagle watching. The CORE campground is very well maintained. Lots of volunteers helping with maintenance. The restrooms are super clean.

Staff are always kind. We stay at least one time a year for the grandchildren's extended camping trip and always happy we did. Mobile service (when I'm the one who typically always has service) was awful. Because I'm a business owner, at times it's important to be able to work in the mornings. I had no service and had to run to the corner store to send an email.

Howell’s Station campground is a beautiful campground. Large lots with lots of big shade trees. I enjoy watching the Bald Eagles over the river and walking or riding my bike on the bike paths.

Howell Station is a wonderful campground. The trails are perfect for biking and walkers alike. Both cities of Knoxville and Pella are close by. Whether you camp there for the races, or Tulip time, there is always something to enjoy.
Nice size camp sites with plenty of room so that your neighbor isn't parked right outside your window.
Only a 3 star rating for this trip, however. We stay during 4th of July weekend because of the "no fireworks" rule, however, this year above others, they were unable to enforce that rule. I get away from the city so I can enjoy an explosive free weekend. Re-thinking next year.

We were so disappointed the grounds were not kept up. The grass was so tall, we were there for a holiday weekend. Used to be our favorite place to go, we won't waste a reservation 6 months in advance for that ever again!

Howell station is our favorite campground to come to. The volunteers are super friendly. The shower houses and bathrooms are always clean. Our last camp out there prior to this July 1 time we had some electrical issues. The camp staff was out three different times to help fix the problem. They were very apologetic and friendly.

We were greeted rudely by a volunteer who was unhappy that we arrived before 2 p.m. on a Sunday. We knew our site was enjoy because we were camping with friends who were already there. The volunteer ranted that they are too busy to accept incoming campers before then. We have camped at Howell for 20 years and never had an issue. We were the only ones filling with fresh water and were not in the way of those using the dump station. If it had been our first time there, we would seriously think twice about coming back.

From Pella, Iowa, take Highway T-15 southwest for 5 mi, then turn east on Idaho Drive to 198th Place. Travel south and follow signs to campground.
Policies & Rules
Arrival & departure
- Reservations are required before occupying a site.
- Check-in is at 3:00 PM and check-out is at 2:00 PM.
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Fees & deposits
- The fee booth is open daily with specific hours for weekdays and weekends.
Fires & fuel
- Firewood is available in limited supply; it's recommended to bring your own.
Site capacity
- Campsites allow one wheeled unit and two tents or three tents, with a maximum of eight people.
Vehicles & parking
- No parking or driving on the grass, except for boat trailers.
- Golf carts, UTVs, and ATVs are not allowed.
Safety & rules
- Water-based play equipment such as kiddie pools and slip-and-slides are not allowed.
- Inflatable play equipment like bounce houses are not allowed.
