What Guests Are Saying
Greenbelt Campground offers a great location close to Washington D.C., providing a peaceful, forested setting with well-maintained sites and convenient access to amenities. Many visitors appreciate the clean campsites, hot water in showers, and helpful staff, making it a good choice for camping near the city. However, some guests noted that the bathroom facilities could use improvements in cleanliness and maintenance. Overall, it’s recommended for its affordability and accessibility to both urban and natural attractions.

With the temps now a bit chilly at night for my roof top tent, I took a day trip to the B Loop of Greenbelt Campground, and spent an enjoyable afternoon cooking around the campfire. There was plenty of dry downed branches close by camp to use as firewood. Nice and quiet this time of year as there are few other guests, and none were nearby the site. And the bathhouse with restroom is open and heated. Access to the A, C, and D Loops were all closed, so it was not possible to explore other areas of the campground. Definitely plan to return, as there are also hiking trails still to explore.

I stayed at the Greenbelt campground in early December. It’s definitely conveniently close to DC and cheap, and I appreciate that. You can walk to the train/subway station in 30-45 min (2.3 miles). However, in Loop B, the small bathroom was clearly not being cleaned, the large (and clean) one with the shower got suddenly closed one morning (thus there was no more showers in Loop B), and making a change to my reservation to switch sites was a huge hassle (app showing an error message for modifying a reservation -> NPS call center not answering my call (I waited 20 min while the announced wait time was less than 5 min) -> Ranger showing up at the station at least 1 hour late). Overall this campground didn’t match my expectations for (and experience with) an NPS-managed site.
