Fifteen Mile Creek Campsite offers beautiful views of the Potomac River and is well-maintained, providing a peaceful and affordable camping experience. The Grass was not mowed and way too high - many ticks. The bathroom facilities were clean though, so that was nice.

There were also many people camping there with no reservations

Great camping location along the C&O Canal Trail and very near to the western end of the Western Maryland Rail trail. Sites 6-9 have a view down to the Potomac River. Number 6 is the best location in term of a river view from the small knoll on which the campground is built.
The campground is unstaffed. We didn't see any NPS rangers during our 2-night stay. A road runs past the campground to a boat launch on the river, and locals seem to like to drive down here in the middle of the night, perhaps just to wake the campers with their loud vehicles.
We rode the C&O to the eastern end of the WMRT about 28 miles downriver and returned along the WMRT. If you're hiking you might enjoy hiking to the Indigo Tunnel a mile or so downriver along either trail or the old rail bridge over the Potomac which marks the western end of the WMRT (both the bridge and tunnel are closed off). Although the C&O Canal Trail passes under the trestle there is no access between the two trails at that point

Overall this is a basement bargain gem. The area is gorgeous and the trail runs right by it so it’s great for biking. The bathroom is cleaned regularly and the grounds kept mowed and tidy. A huge improvement would be if they would do some leveling of the actual campsites. I’m sure it’s fine if you have a van, mini-camper or pop-up put finding level ground for a couple tents is a challenge.

To put it briefly: a clean and safe-feeling camp ground. A picnic table, grill, and fire pit with each site & clean shared facilities (that even had toilet paper stocked!!!) Some sites had a great view of the river & the entire campground had direct access to a nice trail for walking/biking. On our weekend, other campers included couples and families from the DC area, we felt very safe & enjoyed the folks around us.
