Despite the rustic power issue, the site was roomy - yet private, walking distance to the beach and the roads were well groomed. We loved our stay.

We tent camped for 3 nights at Bay Furnace Campground site 001 for our 10 year anniversary. The campground itself was clean and well kept. Site 001 was great for our needs. It was private and close to the restrooms, with just a short walk to the beach. We recommend this campground and would stay here again!

Beautiful, peaceful campground. The only unfortunate things we ran into was the bathrooms were less than ideal and unfortunately you get a lot of road noise depending on the time of day.

Great site (#9), close access to Pictured Rocks and Grand Island, not too far from Marquette. Clean, hookup was fine, easy back-in and pull-out.

We stayed in site 22. Fairly flat gravel pad with lots of trees. The Starlink wasn't usable because of the overhead tree branches. We loved the campground and had easy access to all of the area activities. We stayed in a 29 ft fifth wheel.

Getting There
Bay Furnace Campground is located in Alger County, about 3 mi west of Munising on Highway 28, at the village of Christmas, across from the Kewadin Casino.
Highway access
Bay Furnace Campground is accessible via Highway M-28, which runs directly through the village of Christmas, approximately 3 miles west of Munising.

General
- Insect repellent is encouraged for visitors to Grand Island
- Off-road vehicles not permitted
- Two pets per site
- No switching sites upon arrival
- Please Note: One RV with tow vehicle per single site or one vehicle per tent site. Most sites can accommodate 1 extra vehicle that is not included with the reservation fee. Extra vehicle will be charged a per night fee and collected at the campground.
- Reserved Sites will be held until the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of the second day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests.
- Once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.
- Refunds: Refund requests made through www.recreation.gov will be charged a $10 processing fee. This fee is retained by the reservation service contractor along with the non-refundable reservation fee. All requests for the return of the non-refundable reservation fee and the cancellation fee will be declined by the campground concessionaire as they did not receive these fees (these are the fees retained by the reservation contractor, a different entity).
- Don't move firewood: To limit the spread of invasive tree-killing pests, firewood from outside the area is not permitted. Some states have quarantines and may confiscate your firewood. Please help protect our forests from invasive species by obtaining your firewood at or near your camping destination and burning it on-site. Visit dontmovefirewood.org for more information.
