What Guests Are Saying
Hurricane River Campground offers a beautiful and quiet setting with well-maintained, spacious campsites located near Lake Superior and hiking trails. Campers enjoyed the clean facilities, scenic views, and proximity to stunning sunsets and the beach. While some experienced challenges with the reservation system and biting flies, many found the campground to be a lovely retreat and a great base for exploring the area.

A beautiful and quiet stay. Highly recommend! If you plan on staying here though make sure you bring some firewood, otherwise you’ll be driving for the nearest town for some.

Facilities limited to pit toilets at which were shared by heavy traffic from trail-users. Stinky!

Our stay at Hurricane River was very limited. We arrived late one afternoon and departed the next morning, on our way to Wells State Park, The campground (Upper) was beautiful and secluded, and the the Fall colors were at their peak. We would like a longer stay next time.

Had a lovely time at this campground. We were at #4 lower and it was perfect. If you're near the Lake Superior side, it might be louder and windier. It was more protected and quiet back from the lake. Great location for exploring the eastern parts of Pictured Rocks.
There are fire rings with cooking grates, pole for lantern, and nice pads for tents. Amenities are simple but the location is great.

Large tent platform. Sites visibly shielded from one another by trees, lending a sense of privacy. Easy access to a beautiful lake and lakeshore.

Pictured Rocks Lakeshore is a fantastic area to vacation. Great hiking trails. Camp sites were large and uncrowded. Pit toilet was clean. Plenty of Trash Disposal Containers.

The pit toilets were fly infested and smelled terrible. They weren't well maintained compared to other pit toilets I've used across the country. Other than that, the campground was great.

Campsites were very private and quiet in October. If I were to come back, I’d choose a campsite on 12 Mile Beach. We thoroughly enjoyed hiking in Pictures Rocks National Lakeshore.

Wooded campsite was not secluded as it was on the inner part of the curve on the road. The access to the beach was excellent! The 1.5 mile walk to Au Sable Lighthouse was an awesome little jaunt!

The campsite was as described and was functional. Unfortunately, the day of the reservation the weather turned very poor and made for a rough visit.
