What Guests Are Saying
Hurricane River Campground offers a beautiful and quiet setting with well-maintained, spacious campsites located near Lake Superior and hiking trails. Campers enjoyed the clean facilities, scenic views, and proximity to stunning sunsets and the beach. While some experienced challenges with the reservation system and biting flies, many found the campground to be a lovely retreat and a great base for exploring the area.

We stayed the weekend and had a blast. Definitely will be back. Brought our quad and bikes. Found some great trails to ride. Overall a great location and great campground. Even the people around were nice.

It's a gorgeous space right next to the Lake Superior shore, along the North Country Trail. Short walks to a few shipwrecks and the old Au Sable Light Station are a definite plus. Can't recommend it highly enough!

We stayed in the upper part of the campground. It was private and full shade.
No showers or electric but the location made up for that.
Hike the beach towards the lighthouse!

Upper 7 site was nicely isolated--i could see the adjacent site thru the trees, but they weren't piled on top of one another, unlike other campgrounds I've visited. There was no view of the lake, but the beach and lake were a short .2 mile walk away. It was very clean with a clean vault toilet. There were, not surprisingly, mosquitos. <> The nearest grocery store is quite a drive. Would definitely recommend this campground.

The area is a hikers dream.
Fishing in spring is also a unique experience.
Campground is rustic sites and are separated by foliage and quite away from the rat race of the side by side parks with smaller sites.

We stayed at the Upper Hurricane River Campground - quiet, pretty site with good privacy. Short hike (1/4 mile) to the lake on a trail. We'll be back!

We loved our 4 nights at Hurricane River campground - surrounded by nature, huge camp spot, quiet and close to (by driving) excellent hikes and beautiful lakeshore. Also loved going to Grand Marais (12 miles) and Munising (35 miles) for boat ride to see pictures rocks lakeshore and glass bottom boat tour to see ship wrecks and Grand Island from the water - only wish we had more time!

Campground was beautiful, quiet, clean, and you're not camped *right next* to others. Camp hosts were friendly and available. The level tent pads are a fabulous idea -- every campground should have these. Easy hikes to Au Sable Lighthouse and 12 Mile Beach. Boat rides to Pictured Rocks are a must. Buy your firewood on the way in, as bigger logs are getting hard to come by on the campsites. Overall, a great time on beautiful Lake Superior!
