About Monocle Lake

Monocle Lake Campground offers a a relaxing place to fish, swim and hike along the shores of scenic Monocle Lake just off Lake Superior. It is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in the northeastern corner of the Hiawatha National Forest. The campground is centrally located among many recreational opportunities in the Sault Ste. Marie area, including the Whitefish Bay National Scenic Byway and Tahquamenon Falls.

We love this stop on our yearly trip to Wisconsin, it's very secluded and mostly quiet in the fall at the end of the season. Swimming in the lake is still good in September. Would like to hike the trail to the lighthouse on our next trip.

Campground was busy while we were there but the stay was still pleasant and peaceful. The lake and trails are beautiful. Site 8 is difficult to back a trailer into because of trees in the middle of the entrance, so I used the next site to drive through into my site. Not ideal. There is heavy tree coverage on all sites so don't expect to get sun for solar panels or have open sky for StarLink, and there is absolutely no cell coverage. This is truly 'getting away from it all'.
