We happen to come across this adorable little campsite by total mistake--and we are SO glad that we did. They have FCFS sites (which we took originally) as well as reservable sites (which we have reserved on numerous occasions since). The reservations are very easy to make, and show availability/reserved in a decently organized manner. I would DEFINITELY plan your camping trip to this campground IN ADVANCE... it seems to be a popular one! (We see why). The lake is gorgeous, and the campsites are large (at least the reservable ones are), not to mention that the campground host is VERY kind. We love taking camping trips up this way so we can ride our mountain bikes at Britton and Jackpot/Lutsen. Temperance River is RIGHT up the road, and staying here really helps the soul feel like we "got away" from civilization just enough to relax.

I came here once in the summer and again during the fall, and both times were beyond expectations. The site was absolutely beautiful and felt very private. Waking up to the views of the lake were amazing. It's very rustic, and you wont be getting any cell service, but honestly it was SO nice to be totally disconnected with everything, and be able to really connect with nature and the people we were with.
The vault toilets were very clean and well stocked. The caretaker of the grounds was SO nice and extremely helpful! He came by and checked on us more than once, and even helped us out while setting up camp. He had some really great stories to tell, you can tell he loves what he does.
This summer had firewood for sale on site, but there wasn't any during the fall, so it's a good idea to be prepared.
All of us hope to continue to return often to this campground.

We love this campground. You're pretty far out there--no crowds like at the state parks along Lake Superior. Nearest good hiking (other than the little trail across the road from the campground) is the Superior Hiking Trail, which you can access like 8 or 9 miles away at George Crosby Manitou State Park, so that is a little bit of a bummer, but it's worth it for the solitude. The best sites are the ones along the lake, which are large and have their own little beaches for easy access to swimming and kayaking. Others range in quality, and some are pretty tiny. If you get a chance, bop on over to the Trestle Inn for some fried cheese curds and draft beers.

    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
