The reason for rating our experience three stars is that we had a loud, vulgar and apparently intoxicated group camping next to us. We reported this to the county sheriff in Grand Marais upon our departure. Otherwise, the campground was fine and well-kept considering the remote location. Vault toilets were clean and well-maintained. Water was available onsite. East Bearskin Lake (which serves as an entry point for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness) is beautiful and the access is well-maintained. There is no cell service available due to distance from a coty. There was no problem with the campsite reservation. Buy firewood before setting out from Grand Marais as none is available on-site. I just wish the one group of campers had been more respectful of their neighbors!

Super rustic place-- no showers, pit toilets and no electricity. No phone service. So, why 5 stars? Because it's just a beautiful campground, especially if you can get a site near the lake. Another bonus: There is a 4-season lodge about a 20 minute walk (3 minute drive) where they rent kayaks and canoes that you can enjoy the lake on. Really a great visit. Our second trip here!
