Some of the sites are right on the river, for beautiful views. Plenty of room between sites. Walk across the dam for some nice trails. Convenient to Grand Rapids, MN.

It's an okay campground if you have an RV and ear plugs. I would NEVER EVER camp here again in a tent. Campsites 20 and 21 are right off of the highway and next to a train track. The train went through at 2:00 a.m. and I'll never be the same again. I think my teeth are still chattering. If you enjoy being terrified and seemingly loud noises, then this site is for you. If you enjoy your sleep and peace and quiet, then steer clear of this campsite!

This was our third year camping at Pokegama in early July (2nd year including the 4th of July on same camp site).
The view, overlooking the Mississippi river is excellent, something that is very important for us as senior citizen campers. As a senior we are not into lots of activities, but more into less active activities. Something we look forward to are the campground animals (squirrels, chipmunks, gophers & blue Jays). I carry a bag of peanuts when we camp to feed the animals, The Pokegama animals were at their best and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed their entertainment.
The restroom facilities are a little bit of a hike, but very clean and well maintained. The campground is also well maintained. Outside of the trains and highway noise, the campground is quiet and very peaceful.
Shopping and multiple restaurants are reasonably close, for us we tend to go to various restaurants to eat. We generally try to do brats and corn over the campfire one evening. Overall, an excellent campground and we plan to return to Pokegama for the 4th of July next year, hopefully same site.
