What Guests Are Saying
Sutton Bluff Recreation Area is praised for its great campground, especially for ATV enthusiasts, with direct access to trails and a beautiful natural setting. Many visitors appreciate the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the respectful behavior of fellow campers, despite some issues with facilities and the absence of a camp host. While there are concerns about maintenance and missing amenities like a wastewater dump, overall, the area remains a favored spot for camping and outdoor activities.

Overall this is a great place to camp. Downside is limited electric sites. If you want an electric site, which everyone does, you have to book it the moment it opens up which is 6 months prior to your trip. I’ve made reservations here before only to not be able to make it 6 months down the road due to scheduling conflicts that arise closer to camping. A playground would be a great addition for the kids to be able to go to play. We take our atv’s but sometimes we just want to lay around in the hammock and relax and if the kids had a place they could burn off some energy this could be better accomplished. Overall a great place to go to camp.
P.s. We didn’t ride trails just the roads as the last couple years that we did the trails they were getting too grown up with brush to enjoy.

We were at site #6; great site however NO SHADE... campground was full but it was still peaceful for most part. The site host, Steve I believe, was extremely nice and helpful. Really great place to take the family and enjoy relaxing at the river. Beautiful clear water & we loved our stay there. We stayed 2 nights.

My boyfriend and I had a great experience here! This was a very last-minute reservation on a holiday weekend so I wasn't sure how the campground would turn out. We were going to Taum Sauk and Johnson's Shut Ints. Be aware that this IS an ATV campground. That I must have skimmed over on the website but it ended up being kind of fun watching everyone drive by on their ATVs waving. Very friendly folks! Not the quietest campground during the day by any means, but enjoyable! The camp hosts were so chill and kind and answered all of our questions. He even came to our campsite to check on us, ask if we needed anything and thanked us for coming to the campground. I would totally stay here again, and we hope to do so! Thank you for the great experience!
