The place is very cheap, so for that it gets a couple stars. We weren't expecting luxury, but it is definitely run down. I respect that they had volunteers working on the house, so that's part of it. The lake in front of the house was basically a swamp, so that was not really at all like the pictures. I think it's a worthwhile area to visit and if you don't mind a very old house, old house smell, etc, it's not terrible and its very inexpensive. I would equated it to camping with a roof.

From Poplar Bluff, take Highway 67 north for 14 miles, then drive west on Highway 49 for 9 miles (about 3 miles past the town of Williamsville). Take the first right after crossing the Black River to enter Markham Springs Recreation Area. The drive way to the Fuchs House will be the first Forest Road on the left.
