About Fuchs House

In the late 1930s, Rudolph Fuchs built a five bedroom concrete and native stone house for his family, and also built the present wheel house to produce electricity for his needs. Power was obtained by building a dam in a semi-circle below a large spring forming a small pond. The water was to pour through a chute on the wheel to produce electricity; however, electricity arrived to the site before the wheel ever needed to do its job. The area had an undershot wheel providing power to a grist mill in the late 19th century.

What Guests Are Saying

Fuchs House offers a beautiful setting with spacious accommodations and helpful air conditioning, particularly appreciated during the hot July weather. Guests enjoyed nearby scenic hikes and found the location convenient for exploring local attractions like Sam A Baker State Park. While some mentioned issues with water and uncomfortable mattresses, overall experiences were positive, with many planning to return.

My husband and I rented this place from Thursday till Sunday for our wedding. It was absolutely beautiful from day one! It’s also very reasonably priced given all the amenities and things included! We want to go back for our first year anniversary! There is plenty of room and sleeping spaces which was great too have!

Beautiful location, loved the spring fed pond out front, spent hours trying to catch the pike and could only muster one bite. The cabin is not for everyone and while we enjoyed our time there, the campground, and the Black river, the cabin itself leaves a little more to be desired. It relies on the previous guest leaving it clean for the next guest and while we tried to leave it cleaner than we found it, when we arrived it felt a little dirty. Would we go back? We might consider it in a pinch, the kids surely didn't have any complaints, maybe that's a better litmus test for if a place is good or not. If you need a place that can hold a lot of people and are on a budget then this is a great spot. Thankful to have places like this in our parks that we can visit.

We rent the Fuch's house every year for our family get together and always have the best time. There is plenty of room in the house for everyone. Our kids have so many great memories of The Fuch's House and Markham Springs area. They fish, go hiking, biking, boat on the beautiful pond and many other outdoor activities. The walking paths and bubbling springs is absolutely gorgeous.
