About Hellgate Campground

Hellgate Campground is located 30 mi east of Helena, Montana, along Montana Highway 284.  In July of 1805 the Lewis and Clark Expedition traveled through the Canyon Ferry area exploring and mapping the Missouri River. When Lewis visited the area he described it as a beautiful and extensive plain country of about 10 to 12 mi wide which extended upwards further than an eye could see. In the 1850s the gold rush hit the Canyon Ferry area attracting miners from all over the United States in the hopes of striking it rich.

Beautiful site close to the water with easy access to a beach. There's a short gravel road to the site, which was good for my Honda SUV. Neighbors are close but are respectful and kind. There is a short walk to the vault toilet. Bugs were not an issue on this site.

The only thing to suggest is to make the online booking easier. Or have a phone number that has real people answering.
