What Guests Are Saying
Schnaus Cabin offers a clean and quiet retreat in a beautiful forest setting, perfect for relaxation and outdoor activities like hiking and river floating. Guests appreciate the upgraded amenities, comfortable furnishings, and well-maintained environment. However, there are a few maintenance issues, such as propane concerns and a roof leak, along with the need to bring firewood after April, which some guests found inconvenient.

One of the best. We had phenomenal weather with colorful sunrises and sunsets overlooking the mountains. Larch were in full color. The cabin is incredibly spacious. The fireplace keeps it warm and cozy. Easy access to many National Park and National Forest sites and hiking trails.

too many bears and bugs, probably shouldn't stay there if you are from out of state.

We had a great time. We used the cabin as a base camp for many lovely floats down the North Fork and spent time at Bowman Lake just inside the park. The drive from the cabin to Polebridge was about 15 minutes, and we enjoyed a few pastries from the bakery. We saw a grizzly bear off the road near Polebridge, pretty nice view from the car. Cabin was left as clean as we found it, but might be worthy of a deeper clean sometime. The mosquitoes came and went throughout the day. The kids enjoyed games of flashlight tag around the property. Awesome front porch with a fantastic view of Glacier NP!

Absolutely amazing cabin in a gorgeous setting. The view from the porch was breathe taking. Being able to feel like we could touch the stars was priceless! When you stay here, focus on activities around the cabin. Driving out and around into Glacier took some time, but well worth it!!

Had a great time there, except who ever cleaned out the fire pit made a real mess with the ashes. Hope to stay there again.

My second time at Schnaus Cabin & it is the ultimate getaway. My only suggestion is to have the sanitizer dispencer filled for the latrine as it was empty.

Beautiful place. Very quiet. The cabin itself is very spacious and the wood stove feels great. The surrounding wilderness is spectacular. During the day we xc skied down to a meadow and along the river. Wish we were still there. Thank you to National Forest Service for keeping this special place available to the public and thank you to the Schnauss family for donating the cabin and making it all possible

From Columbia Falls, travel north on Nucleus Avenue and turn east on Railroad Street at the stop sign. This becomes North Fork Road as it travels over the railroad overpass. Continue north on this gravel road for 42 miles to the intersection with Forest Road 10372 and look for the sign for Schnaus Cabin. Go east for less than a half-mile and turn north at the sign for Schnaus Cabin. The majority of the road from Columbia Falls to Scnaus Cabin is gravel, so be prepared for dust during your drive and at the cabin.
