Best sleep I've gotten during the COVID pandemic (don't worry - I did not have it). Quiet, great for games, puzzles, reading (and wine!) by the fireplace. A great getaway.
Also recommend nearby hiking trails - Stanton and Skiumah lakes.

We enjoyed sitting on the porch in the late afternoon and drinking in all the sounds of the forest and wildlife. The cabin was well equipped and the history was interesting. It was perfect to have a nice trail along the river nearby.

Zips Place Cabin was the perfect place to get away for the weekend. It's well-maintained and comfortable. We enjoyed the firepit near the creek and the nearby trails. During our trip (in late July) the flies were pretty bad/annoying outside. I was surprised with all the amenities - the cabin has a full kitchen, many electrical outlets, an updated gas heater, and nicer furniture (for a Forest Service cabin).

We love this cabin. Having electric and the amenties that go with, refrigerator, stove, outlets; makes this an easy place to slip away. The trails surrounding are adventurous but amazing and we always see animal tracks. Thanks for understanding how precious nature is and trying to preserve it for all Zip!!

A tent would be cleaner and more cozy than eating and sleeping in this cabin. The windows were very dirty and there were bugs of all kinds everywhere---alive and dead. The previous occupant left a note on the kitchen counter that they had had mice on the counter, so we did not use the kitchen area or sink at all. We brought our own water and disposable plates, and stayed out of the kitchen except for using the fridge to keep our water cold. The furniture is old and dirty, and without blinds on the bedroom windows, we had to improvise covering them with blankets for the night.
The only thing that was redeeming during our stay was being able to walk around the area with the small creek nearby. Having the gate locked so one can't drive the vehicle up closer to the cabin leads to many trips back and forth taking gear, bedding, and food into the cabin and really seemed like a needless hindrance. Overall, it just wasn't fun or pleasant. We know a lot about camping and being out in the toolies, and usually enjoy that very much---but just being around so much dirt and dust renting this cabin wasn't a good situation we would care to repeat. A decent tent or camper in the woods would bring more cleanliness and satisfaction.
