Nice campgrounds and very close to Lake McDonald and the start of Going-to-the-Sun Road, however, this specific campsite (A12) is on a STEEP HILL!!
I would not recommend for people sleeping in their cars/vans.

The campsites are quite large. Bear Boxes were few and far between. I am used to there being one at every campsite, but we just kept our stuff in our car. Very strict rules about tent placement and hanging of hammocks. Fine with me, but it was obvious that the rules applied to some, but not all. Bathrooms were disgusting. Pooorly maintained and filthy, no matter what time of day we went.

Big trees, lots of shade, lots of activities going on in the store areas. You need to use back entrance to get in, not going to the sun road, or there will be lines during prime times. This is a good site, lots of space, great shade! Bike trail over to fish camp was a nice ride! I LOVE LAKE MCDONALD!!!

The grade on the site was extreme - it was down in a hole! It was a very rustic setting, with minimal sun, so solar panels were not able to recharge batteries. The entire campground has only one shower house with 2 working showers. There was also one broken shower. One of our highlights was getting on the Going to the Sun Road before 6 a.m. as we were unable to get passes. No cell service! The lake is beautiful and an easy walk from the campground.

Bathrooms and showers clean. Really need more showers. Long waiting lines. The rangers don’t have enough to do. I suggest cutting that budget. Every time I went by they were all just sitting outside chatting.
Anyway to get WiFi in there? Is there a better place to put the “highway to the sun” access in a location other than the entrance/exit to Apgar?
Beautiful area. Camp sites are stupendous.

The campground was great. It was nice and quiet and spread out.
The women’s bathrooms near our site had 2/3 working toilets and 1/2 working sinks. There was no hand soap at all.
The listing says Apgar has showers. There were 2 working showers for 200 campsites. The lines were long both early morning and late into the night.
There were not very many bear boxes. For a camp ground that has bears in it almost every day each site needs to have its own bear box.
