Peaceful serene campground (of course that also depends on who your fellow campers are! We lucked out and gad a bunch if quiet, respectful neighbors)
Wonderful aromas of pine & firs from the shading trees (well most if the park forest smells like that) very therapeutic.
The Avalanche camp hosts were delightful. Nice convo.
The restrooms we’re typically very clean, other than a few fellow women campers who left papers all over the floor a couple nights and one of them told ok the bottle of provided soap (ppl need to leave their bad behavior home) restroom block had newly laid cement. No electricity as per description so bring light source for evening forays.

The staff at the campground were diligently monitoring the campground for bear safety.
All the NPS staff that I encountered were helpful, kind, and knowledgeable.
Also, we were able to park 2 cars at our campsite because there was plenty of space.
There was hiking close to the campground (the trail was very popular) that ended at a beautiful lake.

Campground was peaceful. access to bathrooms was good. Starlink worked. Slope was such that I had to remove my truck camper to get it level. Access to shuttle for “Going to the Sun” was terrible. Twice we waited for two hours and every shuttle was full. Trail of the Cedars was good though crowded on Labor Day weekend. Rangers were great.

Avalanche Campground has multiple entry points on the east and west side of the park.
West Side Entrance
- West Entrance – From Columbia Falls, take Highway 2 east to the town of West Glacier (approximately 33 miles (53 km) from Kalispell).
- West Entrance – From Browning, take Highway 2 west to the town of West Glacier.
East Side Entrance
- St. Mary Entrance – From Columbia Falls, take Highway 2 east to the town of Browning (approx. 83 miles/134 km). At the traffic circle, exit onto Hwy 89 north and continue for another 30 miles (48 km). Follow the signage to the St. Mary Visitor Center / Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Avalanche Campground is accessible via Highway 2, which runs east to west near the park, providing access from both Columbia Falls and Browning. The west entrance is reached by taking Highway 2 to West Glacier, while the east entrance can be accessed via Highway 89 from Browning.

Policies & Rules
General
- Food storage regulations are strictly enforced. Grizzly and black bears frequent the area. When not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking utensils, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in bear proof storage lockers near campground restrooms.
- Vehicle length limits. Vehicle and vehicle combinations longer than 21 feet (6.5 m) or wider than 8 feet (2.4 m) including mirrors are prohibited between the Sun Point parking area and Avalanche Campground.
- Maximum Stay. Campground length of stay is limited to 14 days.
- Noise must be kept to a low level that does not disturb other campers. Generator use in campgrounds is permitted only during the following times: 8 am to 10 a.m., noon to 2 p.m., or 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Fire Rings Only. Campsites contain fire rings but do not have fire grates for grilling/ food preparation.
- Hammocks. Hammocks must be hung over non vegetated areas using one inch straps or wider. Vegetation may not be trampled to access hammocks.
- Maximum Number of Tents. Campsites allow a maximum of 2 tents per site.
- No Firewood Collection. Firewood collection is prohibited within Avalanche Campground.
- Renting an RV or trailer? Per 36 CFR 5.3, commercial business may not take place inside Glacier National Park. This includes RVs and trailers being delivered within Glacier's boundaries. Renters of these must drive them in themselves.
