Avalanche Campground is clean, well maintained, and has a very friendly and helpful Campground Host couple! The campground is a great location for leaving your vehicle at your campsite and enjoying an early morning hike to Avalanche Lake! Check out isn’t until noon, so it’s a great hike option, and a beautiful destination at the end of the climb up!

Great campsite in a great National Park. It wasn't secluded but still had sufficient separation from other sites. Short walk to Avalanche Lake trailhead which was a great hike. (Go early).
I would try to stay here again. Reservations are hard to get, check daily.

Avalanche campground is well run and pretty much as described on rec.gov and by other reviewers. Our site was spacious and easy to access. I would have given 5 star rating except the site directly across from us had a generator user. It was pretty obnoxious. Each day he used it exactly 8a-10a and 5p-7p. I don't know about midday hours. The sites have lots of shade trees BUT there are very few low branches so there is almost no privacy at eye level between sites and noise easily travels 5 site lengths or more. The guests were all considerate including the camper across from us but WTH? Turn on a loud generator at 8a then go inside and close the door for net two hours? Why are you here? I suggested to the managers that they restrict generator use to just midday when most people are offsite and limit it to single hour near dinner time. Or maybe regulate the dB levels. Anyway, we still had a great time and would stay there again. One other thing: although there is signage prohibiting it, Avalanche Lake trail hikers that can't find parking at the trail head will leave their cars at unoccupied sites. There was a car in our site when we arrived at 5p and the owners came at 6p and left. I saw the same think happen at the site next to ours. It's a small nuisance as sites easily accommodate two cars but it would be a big issue if you're towing a trailer or pop-up.

We loved staying at Avalanche Campground! We stayed in site A20, and it was spacious, right next to the restrooms, and a short walk to where Trail of the Cedars and the Avalanche Lake hike connect! The only minor things we would have liked would have been hand soap and lights in the restrooms. Either way, we were grateful to stay in Avalanche!

Avalanche Campground has multiple entry points on the east and west side of the park.
West Side Entrance
- West Entrance – From Columbia Falls, take Highway 2 east to the town of West Glacier (approximately 33 miles (53 km) from Kalispell).
- West Entrance – From Browning, take Highway 2 west to the town of West Glacier.
East Side Entrance
- St. Mary Entrance – From Columbia Falls, take Highway 2 east to the town of Browning (approx. 83 miles/134 km). At the traffic circle, exit onto Hwy 89 north and continue for another 30 miles (48 km). Follow the signage to the St. Mary Visitor Center / Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Avalanche Campground is accessible via Highway 2, which runs east to west near the park, providing access from both Columbia Falls and Browning. The west entrance is reached by taking Highway 2 to West Glacier, while the east entrance can be accessed via Highway 89 from Browning.

Policies & Rules
General
- Food storage regulations are strictly enforced. Grizzly and black bears frequent the area. When not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking utensils, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in bear proof storage lockers near campground restrooms.
- Vehicle length limits. Vehicle and vehicle combinations longer than 21 feet (6.5 m) or wider than 8 feet (2.4 m) including mirrors are prohibited between the Sun Point parking area and Avalanche Campground.
- Maximum Stay. Campground length of stay is limited to 14 days.
- Noise must be kept to a low level that does not disturb other campers. Generator use in campgrounds is permitted only during the following times: 8 am to 10 a.m., noon to 2 p.m., or 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Fire Rings Only. Campsites contain fire rings but do not have fire grates for grilling/ food preparation.
- Hammocks. Hammocks must be hung over non vegetated areas using one inch straps or wider. Vegetation may not be trampled to access hammocks.
- Maximum Number of Tents. Campsites allow a maximum of 2 tents per site.
- No Firewood Collection. Firewood collection is prohibited within Avalanche Campground.
- Renting an RV or trailer? Per 36 CFR 5.3, commercial business may not take place inside Glacier National Park. This includes RVs and trailers being delivered within Glacier's boundaries. Renters of these must drive them in themselves.
