This was a nice site. The camping areas had trees around, so it felt more private than it could be. Bathrooms were close but at our specific spot the dump area was out of order, so we had to walk further for that. The camp being near the middle of the park was great for access to the highlight areas. It was about 30 minutes to get to West Glacier and an hour to get to Logan Pass. We could live without showers for the convenience of the location.

We stayed at 63b, which is right next to camp hosts (be warned). They can be a bit cold and unfeeling, definitely not the most helpful or considerate hosts. But Ranger Carol is kind, and helped us learned how to better bear proof our setup!
Some facilities were down during our visit. Additionally, wildfire smoke made staying multiple nights difficult. No lights in bathrooms, which is fine but can make night time visits a bit ominous. In a great location, central to all the sites of West Glacier! Would definitely stay at again when wildfires aren’t present.

This was a beautiful place to camp for our first night in Glacier. The water was absolutely beautiful in the creek, and the hike up to Avalanche Lake was well worth the jaunt, stunning scene from a short climb.

Considering there is no electricity or showers overthere this campground is very peaceful and very clean. We were lucky to see a bear in the morning hanging around the campground :)
Another good thing about this site is that it is very close to the Avalanche Lake trailhead, so you don't need to find parking to go for a hike there. That hike was one of the highlights of our trip

Great site, close to bathrooms, flat tent area, spacious site, tree coverage and fairly private. Avalanche is a great campground but remember, no cell service. 45 min drive to Logan Pass.

Super nice besides the fact that there is no shower. We really liked our camp spot .

Avalanche Campground has multiple entry points on the east and west side of the park.
West Side Entrance
- West Entrance – From Columbia Falls, take Highway 2 east to the town of West Glacier (approximately 33 miles (53 km) from Kalispell).
- West Entrance – From Browning, take Highway 2 west to the town of West Glacier.
East Side Entrance
- St. Mary Entrance – From Columbia Falls, take Highway 2 east to the town of Browning (approx. 83 miles/134 km). At the traffic circle, exit onto Hwy 89 north and continue for another 30 miles (48 km). Follow the signage to the St. Mary Visitor Center / Going-to-the-Sun Road.
- St. Mary Entrance – From Browning, take Highway 89 north to Going-to-the-Sun Road.
Avalanche Campground is accessible via Highway 2, which runs east to west near the park, providing access from both Columbia Falls and Browning. The west entrance is reached by taking Highway 2 to West Glacier, while the east entrance can be accessed via Highway 89 from Browning.

Policies & Rules
General
- Food storage regulations are strictly enforced. Grizzly and black bears frequent the area. When not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking utensils, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in bear proof storage lockers near campground restrooms.
- Vehicle length limits. Vehicle and vehicle combinations longer than 21 feet (6.5 m) or wider than 8 feet (2.4 m) including mirrors are prohibited between the Sun Point parking area and Avalanche Campground.
- Maximum Stay. Campground length of stay is limited to 14 days.
- Noise must be kept to a low level that does not disturb other campers. Generator use in campgrounds is permitted only during the following times: 8 am to 10 a.m., noon to 2 p.m., or 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Fire Rings Only. Campsites contain fire rings but do not have fire grates for grilling/ food preparation.
- Hammocks. Hammocks must be hung over non vegetated areas using one inch straps or wider. Vegetation may not be trampled to access hammocks.
- Maximum Number of Tents. Campsites allow a maximum of 2 tents per site.
- No Firewood Collection. Firewood collection is prohibited within Avalanche Campground.
- Renting an RV or trailer? Per 36 CFR 5.3, commercial business may not take place inside Glacier National Park. This includes RVs and trailers being delivered within Glacier's boundaries. Renters of these must drive them in themselves.
