Avalanche Campground

Overall, Glacier NP and the campground are a great place...however the A08 campsite was terrible at best...it isn't really a campsite is the best way to put it...all the surrounding sites are much larger and have ample space in back of the gravel drive/ parking areas of them to facilitate proper placement and staking of tents. A08 has all gravel ...although it states it in the details, it really shouldn't be qualified as a campsite. It is extremely small and too close to the A loop road. I suggest the National Park service/ rec.gov make A08 twice the size it is, and allow for camping where it says no camping beyond the boundary...or eliminate the site completely.

We had a great experience in avalanche. We had no service which forced us out of our phones and just take in nature's beauty while also spend more time with each other. It is in the center of Going to the Sun road which isnt too bad of a drive to explore East and West Glacier. It is very convenient to just walk to Trail of the Cedars right from our campsite when parking is very limited. Just some notes about the campground and national park: 1. The bathrooms have no electric lighting, they rely natural lighting from windows so definitely bring a headlamp/flashlight. 2. The bathrooms in Avalanche campground don't provide handsoaps so bring your own. 3. If youre planning on hiking Hidden Lake and the Highline Trail, youre going to have to park in Logan Pass and they've implemented a 3 hour parking limit now and also get there very early to get a parking spot. We've hiked Hidden Lake (total 5.2 miles) and was able to make it back within 3 hours, however, for the Highline trail hike to Granite park chalet (7.6 miles one way) we parked at one of the overlooks just a little further down the road from Logan Pass to avoid getting a ticket or worse, getting towed. We finished that hike in 10 hours.

The woman bathroom ran out of paper towels and toilet paper. Appeared to have not been cleaned the whole time we were there. Told several park rangers nothing was done.

A great place to camp and see

Avalanche Campground was well maintained and conveniently located close to the trails. Even though there were no showers, it was still an amazing campsite. Our site had plenty of shade, which was perfect for keeping cool. Just be prepared there is absolutely no cell service, which was actually a nice way to disconnect and enjoy the outdoors!

Easy access with our camper. Friendly camp host. Clean facilities. Easy access to the avalanche lake trail. Lots of access to potable water, restrooms, and garbage.

Great quiet campground with easy access to the avalanche lake trail. Flush toilets were clean, but the cleaning station by this site was not operational during my visit for grey water. The gravel area for this site is a little off for tent camping but manageable. Leaving or coming back to the campground can be a hassle at times due to the parking lot for the trail aligned with the campground entrance, but you don’t hear that traffic or hikers. You have some good views of the surrounding landscape from the campground.

Superb location as very close to Avalanche trailhead

We stayed in 2 spots, A46 and A10. 46 was a bit more private, 10 more spacious. A26 on the end was amazing I’ll try for that if I come back.
Campground was right next to the super popular avalanche cedar trail, and the trees in the campground were just as cool as on the trail. Almost worth booking just to get parking there.
Camp host was cool, they definitely care a lot about bear safety, they see bears almost daily in the campground.
Not super private but the trees were awesome.

Avalanche campground was quiet and we appreciated the distance between campsites, plus the vegetation surrounding them. The fire pit, picnic table and bathrooms were excellent. It was the packed rock of the tent site which made it nearly impossible to drive in our tent stakes that made us unhappy.
