We loved this campsite but were only here one night due to smoke. We were really close to the amenities, which were clean and nice. Would camp here again, especially given how close it is to some nice hikes.

Great little campground, level sites, clean restrooms. A bit hard to get to site as you have to drive thru the masses that are trying to park in the day use lot. Some sites are closer to road and get some noise during the day. Super handy location to hike both Trails of Cedar and Avalanche Lake.

Great experience at the campground with helpful hosts, clean campsite, adequate amenities. It's a National Park so come ready to be patient with people and the pace.

Was thankful to get a one night spot when someone cancelled. Never saw a host or ranger, but the site was clean and ready for us and we really enjoyed it. We hiked Avalanche lake in the morning before check out so that we didn't have to deal with parking and that was definitely a highlight. No available firewood to purchase when we were there. Bathrooms were ok - serviceable water but no lights so don't forget your headlamp when you go! This campground is in trees, which gives you privacy from neighbors, but not alot of views of surrounding mountains.

Loved this campground! My site had a connector trail up to the Avalanche Lake trailhead, so it was perfect since I wanted to do that hike! I am sure some others do as well, and of course, other people used it as well who were in other sites.

A magical place to camp. I’m so glad we were able to stay here. Facilities were great and the location is unbelievable. Unimaginably gorgeous. Stunning.

Very nice quiet campground between old trees. It was very nice to see some elk grassing between the tents.Great point to start a hike to Avalanche Lake or to do the Trail of the Cedars, it solved us the parking problem. Nice and friendly staff. We definitely can recommend this campground!

Avalanche Campground has multiple entry points on the east and west side of the park.
West Side Entrance
- West Entrance – From Columbia Falls, take Highway 2 east to the town of West Glacier (approximately 33 miles (53 km) from Kalispell).
- West Entrance – From Browning, take Highway 2 west to the town of West Glacier.
East Side Entrance
- St. Mary Entrance – From Columbia Falls, take Highway 2 east to the town of Browning (approx. 83 miles/134 km). At the traffic circle, exit onto Hwy 89 north and continue for another 30 miles (48 km). Follow the signage to the St. Mary Visitor Center / Going-to-the-Sun Road.
- St. Mary Entrance – From Browning, take Highway 89 north to Going-to-the-Sun Road.
Avalanche Campground is accessible via Highway 2, which runs east to west near the park, providing access from both Columbia Falls and Browning. The west entrance is reached by taking Highway 2 to West Glacier, while the east entrance can be accessed via Highway 89 from Browning.

Policies & Rules
General
- Food storage regulations are strictly enforced. Grizzly and black bears frequent the area. When not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking utensils, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in bear proof storage lockers near campground restrooms.
- Vehicle length limits. Vehicle and vehicle combinations longer than 21 feet (6.5 m) or wider than 8 feet (2.4 m) including mirrors are prohibited between the Sun Point parking area and Avalanche Campground.
- Maximum Stay. Campground length of stay is limited to 14 days.
- Noise must be kept to a low level that does not disturb other campers. Generator use in campgrounds is permitted only during the following times: 8 am to 10 a.m., noon to 2 p.m., or 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Fire Rings Only. Campsites contain fire rings but do not have fire grates for grilling/ food preparation.
- Hammocks. Hammocks must be hung over non vegetated areas using one inch straps or wider. Vegetation may not be trampled to access hammocks.
- Maximum Number of Tents. Campsites allow a maximum of 2 tents per site.
- No Firewood Collection. Firewood collection is prohibited within Avalanche Campground.
- Renting an RV or trailer? Per 36 CFR 5.3, commercial business may not take place inside Glacier National Park. This includes RVs and trailers being delivered within Glacier's boundaries. Renters of these must drive them in themselves.
